My dad called me a few minutes ago, they are escorting the body of a fallen soldier killed overseas today. They got to the church and the whack jobs from the Westboro church are there picketing and protesting the soldier and his family.

They are carrying signs that say things like "Your son died in vain" and "God hates Fags"...

They yell at the family's when they drive by all kinds of just gross and unacceptable things...

Dad said there were about 85 patriot guard riders there for this soldier so they should be able to easily cover any noise the protesters make...

If you have never heard of the patriot guard its a neat deal. They will never ask to attend any funeral and will only go if they are requested by a family. They are mostly retired or former military and they ride all sorts of bikes. They stand guard over the bodies and will escort them from the airport to whereever they are going to be buried. They stand at attention for the familys when coming in and out of the church... When protesters show up at these events the riders will start their bikes up (Most of them are harley's) and they will just rev the engines on the bikes so that the family's cannot hear the language or garbage spewing from this group... They have had to do this before and dad said he gets so mad he could cry because of the disrespect for the family and the soldier... There is a little relief for him, when the do rev the motors and stand guard he says that you can feel the connection for a cause and everyone there will do whatever it takes to protect the families from the desecration......

Support or join your local Patriot Guard.....

Here are just a a few pics of my dads group... He goes on about 3 funeral a week, they cover all soldiers, WWII, Korea, VietNam it doesn't matter as long as you served our country....

This just sucks, there comes a time when freedom of speech is not deserved. I know we live in America, but with rights come responsiblity, and just because you can do something, doesnt mean you should. Props to your father Cap.

If memory serves me correct, in that first pic the headstone had not been placed on the grave and the members did not feel their job was completed so they stood guard one at a time until the grave marker was placed, there was another person there ready to take over if the first needed to step away...

It may not be as snappy and they may not be dressed as well as a US Marine in the honor guard but I guarantee you there is not a person out there that doesn't have the heart of a true American.... Hats off to what they stand for and for the effort they put forward...

I don't understand why someone hasn't dropped that preacher in a lake with cement shoes. He's the worst kind of person and really doesn't deserve to live. I can't think of many non-murder offenses that warrant death, but this ranks up there pretty high.

Dad told me the other day that not only is this Church protesting a few weeks ago a soldier died here in Oklahoma and they actually called the mother of the dead soldier and told her that her son died in vain protecting gays and that they were glad he was dead. They are now carrying signs that read "God Loves IED's" I think they have that one on their website too...

unbelievable....

Kudos to your dad and all who participate in this group.

I'll never understand what these Westboro Church people are trying to accomplish by their disrespectful actions. Any anti-war angst one may feel should be directed towards the politicians who send our troops into battle, not servicemen and women who ultimately are just pawns in the game.

two very distint things come to mind when I talk to my dad about his day....

1. There are some great men and women that serve our country and her freedoms each day. There are equally great men and women citizens that are trying to show the thanks of a nation to the families of the fallen, what a great example they set...

2. While the group that protest is completely abusing the very freedom they have been given it does demonstrate that incredible opportunities of living in the USA. Where else could you go and deface and dishonor the very country you live in and still have protection to do so..

What an amazing country we live in and what a great deal has been sacrificed to allow me to live free......

While they carry the banner of a baptist church their doctrine is absolutely not in line with baptist teachings...

+1 What a shame it is that whether you support the war or not, that so called Christains will willingly dishonor a fallen soldier and his/her family, and at the funeral of all places. This should be considered Treason.
May GOD bless your father and all who serve this great cause!

If that crap was happening near me, id lite a bible on fire and fling it at them. I dont believe there is any religion out there that at the core of it doesn't practice tolerance. Those that refuse, burn.
