What the heck do U do with your old helmets?

Helmets have a limited life, the industry suggests 5 years.
They lose shock absorbing properties with age as the materials age and degrade. So they say. I don't agree nor disagree.
Usually I am ready for a new lid in five years.
Tires are a good example, the industry now says 7 years. If a tire is 7 years old regardless of tread depth, replace them.

I agree...the foam in the shell and the cheek padding will degrade because of heat and sweat. An excellent reason to upgrade if you're close to that time limit!

Ya I was told every 5 years and sooner if the helmet has taken a good hard hit or something like that.I personaly only have 2 and my wife has one. I would hope all those where from years ago cas that is a lot of money. If you can have that many newer helmets good for you. Keep doing what ever you are doing.

I have a buddy that still races dirt bikes. After each wipeout he cuts the chin straps so they can't be used again on accident as a loaner or taken by mistake.
