Call me ignorant, but I never knew that the ZX-14 was only 1352cc. I always thought it was 1399, but the March issue of cycle world has a 08 busa vs. 08 ZX-14 article that says: "Suzuki gave the Hayabusa a more comprehensive treatment, both cosmetically and mechanically, with a 2mm stroke increase, upping the engine's capacity to 1340cc, giving it a fighting chance against the 1352cc Kawasaki." 1/4 mile runs: 20 passes each, same track, same rider. . . 14 - 9.79 @ 144.47, Busa - 9.75 @ 147.02, "Although our bike had posted an even quicket 9.70 @ 148.48 when tested a few weeks earlier ("hayabusa by the nubmers"). Busa ups: Quickest production bike ever, hip hop styling, tip top performance, Legendary reputation. Downs: Longish reach to bars, engine can be buzzy, No faster than a ZX-14. ZX-14 Ups: Now has a grunt in every gear, Silky smooth runner, strong brakes. Downs: midnight sapphire paint shows dirt and scratches, Lacks storage space, No faster than a Hayabusa. Busa hp/torque: 173.4@9600rpm/103.9@7450. ZX-14 hp/torque 163.7@9200rpm, 103.7@7750. And the last paragraph of the article. . . "There's no doubt that Suzuki has reclaimed its position as the performance leader when it comes to top dog bragging rights with an amazing powerplant and smoking quarter mile time. But when it comes to picking the perfect parter for a night on the town or several days on the road, there's not a better balance of power, finesse, smoothness, and grace than the ZX-14."
