What does GSX-R stand for?

I would guess experimental X, race R, added to Suzuki's origional GS designation.
If it was eXperimental, you wouldn;t be able to have it road legal would you?

And what about the GSV-R?  Another racebike, but a different designation.
Gran Sport Victory Racing?

Isn't that their MotoGP bike?

Teah I believ so. Looks identical to the GSXRs they field elsewhere, but the designation being different, I wonder what the difference is.

Okay guys, I figured someone would have jumped on here by now with the answer?
What do I get if I give you the answer?

GS - is suzuki's designated letters for "Street Bike"
X - is suzuki's designated letter for "Sport Street" which came about with the inline 4 in 1986 I believe. This letter seperates the sport bikes from the cruisers.
R - as everyone knows is their letter for "Race"

There seems to be no real relationship between the letters and the meaning except the "R"?
But you must remember, the designing engineers were little japanesse guys who may not have been well familiarized with the english language?

So, do I get a big red star now?
