Suzuki Pulling out of AMA?

I just read this and I can't say it would be a surprise! This sickens me! The DMG thing has the potential to bastardize professional Road Racing in this country in much the same way Wild west shows did the old west.

BTW History was made today in Wisconsin! No spoilers, but something big happened today.

Sounds like rumors still.

But I don't think Suzuki is gonna race next year. Mladin already said he won't do it. Spies goes to MotoGP or WSBK. Why would they stay....?

Why would they stay....?
How about the sale of 20,000+ GSXR units per year
sadnews.gif
! Sounds like a good reason to stay to me
dunno.gif
. If Honda, Kawa, Yama stay, I really don't think Suz could afford to leave

Its not like no one will have a GSXR in DMGs version.

Its just that no one will have a factory Suzuki ride if they pull out.

DMG is wanting the rules to equalize the bikes and replace factory teams with sponsored teams.  So that will play into Suzuki's hand, there'll still be Suzukis racing.

Maybe, but POOR quality riders

will still lose on a HIGH quality ride

. And that's the problem

! Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday is still TRUE

! A bike that is always on the bad end of the other 3, is still going to lose sells. And after all, that's what they're in racing for. To Sell Bikes

Well, in a few months we'll see who pulls out and what happens

At least there'll be WSBK and MotoGP

I haven't watched the races yet so either one of two things could've happened:

1. Spies got his 7th win in a row

or....

2. A NON-YOSHIMURA SUZUKI Rider won the race (this would suprise me more than anything!!)

Is this all just white collar ignorance ? Thinking they can use a chassis dyno to keep the proposed 185hp and 140 hp cap in check in some good way ?

The kingpins at DMG are making a name for themselve's thats for certain . This ain't NASCAR where they took restricter plate racing in the *** and liked it.

I found this on another site , Suzuki is very near to saying go take a hike , we'll race somewhere else . I hope the big four steps out of this BS for a year cause BS it is .

bad times in AMA Racing

Can someone photoshop a Viagra sponsored Buehl ?

so what is the big deviance from the world rules that the new series owners are proposing? is this just the hp cap?

The new rules basically eliminate the Superbike series as we know it as well as the Supersport series. The new premier series would be the "Daytona Superbikes" which is the equivalent to the current 600cc Formula Extreme series. Then they will have the new "Literbike Series" which will be not too far off from the current AMA Superstock series. All would require Spec Fuels, Spec Tires and perhaps even issue Spec ECU's at each race and all would have HP limits as well. They would eliminate the 16.5" wheels from Superbike and also the 6.25" wide rim width now used. They also eliminate aftermarket forks and shocks and non-homologated brake components as well. Basically everything that makes a Superbike a superbike is no longer allowed. But then they go on to mandate that if a Manufacturer wants to participate at all they must field 4 bikes in each race and not one AMA team at the moment has the capacity to field four bikes. The new rules are generally not being recieved well by anyone. The up side is that the purses will be bigger and potentially TV coverage would increase and the sport in general would prosper albeit in the absence of its fastest most challenging class of racing and the best and brightest talent.

This is an interesting article. Francis Batta who owns the factory Suzuki WSBK team is talking about wanting American((s)Spies in particular)and Brits in WSBK and how he believes the demise of the AMA Superbike class will be good for WSBK!

"For me, the good news is the new AMA rules in America, because that means no Superbike in America. So resources would be diverted to Alstare. From the Japanese, the budget is for America and Alstare, America and Europe." --
Batta

Change . It's natural to resist it and sometimes change is a good thing resulting from increased funds to make them .This is a poor way to increase funds and I personaly can see no good coming from this BS. I very much hope Suzuki , Kawasaki , Honda and Yamaha pull out and leave them hanging .

Examples of change for the better . The Factory Morbidelli GP bikes in the pits at the Finnish GP .

Kenny Roberts on pit lane . Dirt road and look at the water hole .

Some would agree with me that racing is a little safer these days at most tracks because of change but this is a hard pill to swallow .

I would be all for this (and I am sure Mel Harris would be too)if they had at least tried to do a phased transition to the newer formats perhaps in the form of spec tires (pretty much nave that now anyway with Dunlop)and fuel for next year? But to completely do away with the most prestigious and longest running (Superbikes originated here)series in Superbike racing history? They could have simply taken a page from the FIM book and set it up to allow the Big Twins and 1000cc fours to compete on equal footing. I am sure there will still be good racing and probably lots of it. But without the big show I fear no one will care.

Cool pictures by the way!

Pics were in effort to illustrate that more money brought into the sport made better conditions for everyone over a long period of time , even the spectator but , who benefits from this ?

The slow guy who qualifies 20th position is who and hopefully he's not the guy who takes other riders out . 18th place on the start grid is who has that job . Matt Maladin could see clear through it all .

All we can do is sit and watch it all unfold and ..

Yak about it

I'm not convinced that the DMG format is going to bring more money. I think its a risky gamble and odds are the racing series will lose money.

How many people actually follow MotoST?? Who goes to the watch MotoST races?? Not many...

I watched a couple of MotoST races last year. I didn't realize it but I guess I fell asleep 15 minutes into it!!

However....

World Endurance Championships!! That RULEZ!! Especially the 24 hour Le Mans race. Moto racing in the dark kicks arse!!

IMHO...I think that more money coming from Suzuki Japan to the Alstare WSBK team is actually a good thing. Since it's the most prestigious Superbike show in the world, Suzuki may actually be able to build an even STRONGER 1000cc platform, and that could translate to better consumer bike for us. Alstare is on the verge of blowing up and being the next "YOSH" team in WSBK. They're not doing that bad this year, and if more resources and funding come in from Japan, they may become unstoppable in 09.

I got what you were getting at and I appreciate what DMG wants (needs)to do but I still question the execution of the plan as s whole. At the moment the big money in bike racing seems to be coming from Energy drink manufacturers, and telecoms. The days of Tobacco funding are long since gone and Alcohol would seem to be hot on its heels (everywhere but Nascar that is). We now have Rockstar, Monster and Redbull all sponsoring people and even entire series in the US. What percentage of those folks are going to stay the course (or even increase funding necessary to support four rider teams) through this transition without the draw of the big nasty Superbikes? The World Superbikes, British Superbikes, Australian Superbikes and even Canadian Superbikes are all pretty successful in their respective markets because of this I presume. I can't answer all the questions but speaking as a fan I can say I don't dig the direction at the moment. I would really like to hear what some of the old guard have to say about it? The Kenny Roberts', Eddie Lawson's and Kevin Schwantz's of the world. So Far all I have really heard is from Mladin and Mel Harris and they seem to be likewise unhappy with it.
