Rooting an EVO Question

I have been reading about rooting my HTC EVO. Here are a few of the highlights:

1. I like the idea of being able to control the CPU to extend battery life.
2. I like the idea of using the developers ROMs to try new toys.
3. I don't like the idea of bricking my phone.
4. And this is a question....can you Root Android 2.3.3?

From what I am reading, it is not possible to root my phone since it is running the latest and greatest from Sprint. What say you?

you're probably not going to brick the phone by rooting it. but if you overclock the living piss out of it and melt the cpu off the circuit, you'll brick it

I understand the risk of overclocking, I would be more interested in underclocking to increase battery life. With that said, does anyone know how to root 2.3.3?

Just upgrade to the new EVO 3d. My battery life is twice what my original EVO was. Plus Sprint bought my old one back for $150 so the new one only costs $50. Its a win win...
