Is this the attitude of the members?

So I get a PM today from one of the moderators that was passing a members complaint to me (who the member is has no bearing on this message so I removed the member name). The more I read this complaint the more I wanted to know what the masses thought........ So here is the final response from a member here to a moderator....

I know what you are saying, but what if people dont want to use the auction to sell stuff, the price is the price, for anything people are trying to sell no sense turning this into a FEE BAY deal.

This site was much better when the "owner" wasnt trying to make money off of it.

I appreciate the fact you work and have a family, but you chose to do what you do so dont tell me your just doing what you need to do, YOU CHOSE to be a moderator, so you choose to do this noone makes you.

I have several threads/posts removed for voicing my opinions, because of my affiliations with board members that got banned for voicing opinions...

So tell me when did this become a money making board, and does the "owner" report what he makes from the "donations" and the raffles to the IRS? is there a business license? do you have business insurance, is there fraud protection, I dont think you have the rights to tell us how to sell our stuff if you dont have these things in order, I would check your federal laws pretty quick, I believe if the "owner" is gonna profit from this board there needs to be some business licenses posted for public view,  

is there some were on here that says you have the right to free speech unless we dont like it we will remove it for you...

ugh...this cant ever be just a social forum for people to share knowledge and information someone always has to try to profit from it...

I offered to donate money from the sales to the board, so obviously I am not the only one benefitting from selling my stuff here, and if thats the attitude you and the rest of your moderator friends have, this board will not succeed for long, people are people, and dont appreciate being talked to the way you guys are talkin to people.

So if you would like me to take myself and my other busa friends else were then keep practicing your policies the way you are, and then we will all suffer because the baord wont be around anymore....[/Quote]

Do you guys think that I really make money from this website? Is that what the general consensus is, that I I am just looking for a buck? I don't even know how to respond to these PM's anymore........ Some months we come out ahead some months we lose our pants, I have been trying to come up with ideas to have the site fund itself without donations, geesh I'm trying to keep this site up for a bunch of great people and you know what a bunch of complainers too. I do the best I can, we have a great group of mods that run the front end board stuff, I keep the site running.

The idea of an auction site wasn't to make me rich it was to pay for the hosting fees, upgrades, software, labor for programming, artwork, shirts, decals, hats and all the other stuff we try to do.

I read in the email that this site won't be around long, I have heard that from the very first day that we brought the message board online, and I have heard it consistantly for the past 7 years. It will never be that the site doesn't have anyone to come here, there are thousands of people that want to come and use the resources, not a lot who want to pay to keep it going... I have tried to sell shirts, hats, decals and jackets. A guy can only have so many busa shirts in the closet ya know, we started the raffles to help out and we have had folks complain about them too.

I sat one day and looked at the website and asked myself what I could do to generate money so that this site would be self sufficient, one thing that we have here is constant traffic. I decided that an auction site would be perfect, if you have something to sell you put it up and if it sells the site gets a couple of cents, if it doesn't no harm no foul. If you were looking for a part or accessory you could go to the auction site and find a vendor there and do business. The new functionality was put into place to help you YOU YOU YOU not me.

I pay taxes on this site, I have an accountant that performs all of my taxes so I am on the up and up, feel free to contact the IRS...... I have nothing to hide.

I have had a rough day, I get this message and now I'm trying to justify why I do things the way I do them.... Incredible.......

For those that are reading this and thinking to yourselvelves I wonder what it cost to run a website like this?? I will enclose the stats for a typical month. It takes a pretty big server to dish out all the info that put out into the world and bandwidth cost too.... When the site was smaller and I hosted it in my house keeping the thing running wasn't a problem, now its in California in a hosting farm and I have limited access. I dont have the time that I used to so I often have to contract out code work and development to friends so that we can protect this place from malicious hack attempts and provide something new. It cost over 600 a month in hosting and bandwidth just in reoccurring cost, that doesnt cover the software, hardware changes or upgrades or my time..... (that has to be worth something)..

Time and time and time again the idea to make this place a paid membership site has come around. As appealing as it sounds its not going to happen. Too many of you out there just cant afford a few bucks every month, family and food comes first...... No problem...

What do I need from the folks out there that understand my situation and agree with me? It's simple I just need you to log on to the auction site and give it a whirl, I know it may be scary and new at first but its really easy. Where else could you go and buy and sell from guys that you know and respect and help a cause out in the process? That's it, if you see something that you like bid on it and buy it. If you have something around the house you want to sell, put it up....... The site gets a few bucks from a big sale.... If you disagree Im Okay with that but the sales on the message board will be removed.

I have instructed the moderators to delete all NEW threads that put up on the site that relate to personal or business sales. If you don't like my vision or you feel that I am infringing on your misunderstood freedoms on Hayabusa.org I suggest that you check out Sh.org, Labusas.org, psychobike.com or start your own site.......

Dennis at Sh.org (Dolphin is modding these days), Ducmaniac at Labusas and Frank at Psychobike all have superb websites that are fast, free and open to the public.... Check em out and see if they fit you better.

As for the Auctions site, I think most people don't realize there is a buy it now option when you make the ad.

I don't feel that this letter reflects 90% of the membership.  There are always going to be a few who will complain and try to get their way instead of just leaving!  I'll never understand how people think they have the freedom of speech here.  You don't, when you agree to become a member you agree to post accordingly.

I am new here on the board so my opinion is just that "my opinion". I have used boards and still do for my three boats, one helicopter, two cars, radio control, and this board here is the most professionally ran board I have used. I am proud of the moderators and the members here. I will remain here on this board hell or highwater standing firm with my Busa brothers. Defending our way and our progress forward as this board expands to greet the "squids", "Newbies", "Old Timers", and "Lurkers". We are all one here and we take care of our own ( and others ).

Don't change a thing.......if someone don't like the way it is....delete the damn favorite and go back to your parking lot with your buddies. We'll be here when you see what a great thing we have here, and you'll be welcomed back if you so choose.

Sorry for the rant, Its my time of the month I guess.

You hit the nail on the head right there...... Im not the "Daddy" of the website here to find every little thing..... This site will be what the members make it, for the new guys coming in they are riding on the coat tails of some truly great men and they effort they put into this place. If everyone will just keep their area and keep their eyes open and offer a little guidance and direction to the new guys we will be fine.........

It is because of the excellent people that I have met here in the past that keeps my hope for this place alive.

Non-sense is what that PM is...don't let it drag you down further cap as I know you are already feeling the pain so to speak. I don't think it takes a genious to figure out that with the cost of running a board like this that a few t-shirt sales, and a couple of cents in auction fee's aren't going to put you on easy street.

Too bad, as it probably makes you question whether you want to continue doing this or not, which is a bad spot to be in. Thanks for your work and your families sacrifices to keep this happening.

I think I'm gonna sell a few things that I have been meaning to ebay so I can get rapped with fee's and you can get rich, LOL. Seriously I think I'm gonna try it out here soon.

Cap't, I'm not overly fond of the auction site, but you would never hear me complain about it either. I understand it takes money to run this place that each and every one of us enjoy. And without MEMBERSHIP FEES, which has been a hottly discussed topic, raising funds for something that is given away FREE is tough. I know there's alot of NEWBIE traffic that has used your home to peddle their goods and services, at the same time, I feel a right has been taken from long standing contributing members. In the end I know there's no way to distinguish between the two. I myself have made a few sales, and bought a few items from members here on the board, though nothing excessive.............In all it was quick,simple, and easy. Now I actually have to think " Hey I need something" and go to the Auction site instead of browsing and coming across an item randomly and saying "Hey, I want that." It's just different, it's new, it's not something I've seen on any other message board.

I for one have never thought that you in any way have ever profited from this board. If anything, I've been around long enough to know the financial stress this site has placed on you and your family at times. In the end it all comes down to the fact that as long as this site is FREE, you can do whatever you want with it and I have no right to complain. As long as this site is FREE...........I'm in your living room, drinking your beer, eating your chips, with my feet kicked up on your coffee table, and just DAMN HAPPY YOU'VE INVITED ME IN !!!

I think you and your mod staff are doing a great job at keeping this place great,and hope things stay nice like they are.You can never please everyone,so dont even try.The rest of the 90 percenters will always apreciate what you are doing Doug.

Don't let them get under your skin Cap. No one holds a gun to their heads and makes them sign on to the org. The attitude that If you don't play with me the way I want, I'll take my ball and go home just does not fly with me. I don't want to see anyone go away from the org, but if the way the site is run causes that much of a problem for them, mabe it's for the best. Why anyone is concerned about the potential profit, ha ha , from YOUR work is something I can't understand. I for one, appreciate what you and the members have built on this sight, and I wish I could provide more financial support than I have been able to do. I have made more close friends and met more quality people on this site over the last year than I could have thought possiable. I for one hope you do make a profit! You deserve it.

Cap I couldn't care LESS if you do make money or just get enough to pay for the site. As I see it, IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS !! I do donate because I use the site and as I am a user, why should it be free to me when someone else had the idea, money, time and effort to put this GREAT site together. So, I am VERWIE VERWIE HAPPY just as it is
