Hdtv, sdtv, my mtv 123 abc

Well, crappers. I did some research and it turns out my Samsung HD841 DVD player already does progressive scan and 3 levels of HD upscaling to 1080i so I guess I don't need anything better. We'll see after it all gets hooked up and going. I'm pulling the plug on cable since I can do better for free for my minimal tv needs with an antenna. Thanks for all your knowledge guys

make sure if your want to do progressive scan that you have component or HDMI. it will look alot better since your running at 60 frames a sceons vs 30 frames per sec.

Glad we set you straight, I think there are 9-10 HD channels that you can get with an antenna in Denver so you should get at least 1 in Des Moines

With any of the cable/satellite providers you need one of their HD receivers(set top boxes) or some TV's have a slot for a CableCard(a small digital cable tuner that allows your tv to receive that providers digital channels SD and HD) to receive HD programming from them. If you just go from the wall to the tv all you can receive is the SD signals of basic cable. I am almost positive your TV has a built in tuner so go get yourself a powered indoor tuner or decent roof top one and you should get a good signal. The over the air signals look a little sharper as opposed to the same channel through my DVR cable box but I am addicted to the DVR so I still use it, plus I wouldnt get ESPN or HBO in HD over the antenna which is pretty nice for a lot of things. Now if you guys in Iowa had some sports teams you would really have something nice to watch on the TV

hahahahaha! We got "STARS" hockey or something. Also, DSM has 4-6 HD broadcast channels I think. I cancelled my cable and got them to eat the install fee since they LIED and told me I'd get HD. That was nice of them. I'll just get an antenna and call it good. The TV is really jsut for movies and video games. Speed Channel would have been really neat-o though - but I don't think it's even IN HD. I'll post some pics after I get it delivered and optimised

here is our new little system, a Panasonic 42" HDTV

The Speed Channel(aka Bubba TV) is a necessity for me MotoGP, 125, 250, SuperStock, Supersport, sometimes FX, AMA superbike and world superbike plus the occasional WRC show when they can seem to squeeze real racing in between the NAPCAR. But sadly they are not in HD yet, I would think that they would be a leader in that.

Like 1127 said you need a good receiver for it, flat screens(I think all TV's but expecially flat panels) have terrible speakers and sound. I have no sound from the tv only from my recevier.

I saw your other thread on your MotoGP crash, have you seen the screenshots for MotoGP '06 for the 360?

"06" ? ? ? ? OH man. I'll never keep up with all these great cycle games!!! hahahaha I've got Suzuki Superbike TT and will get Tourist Trophy, and MAYBE MotoGP4 for PS2, already have MotoGP2 for PC and motogp 3 demo.

I cranked my MotoGP 3 demo up to 1920x1440 full detail yesterday and it didn't even flinch. Looked, played GREAT! I doubt my consoles will EVER look this good!

hehe, yeah that site is good stuff... along with avs forums  but I dont get the $7/month

I'd buy any Progressive scan DVD and wait out the Blue ray/HD mess for a while, remember Beta and Laser Discs??? Use t least the component connections and digital audio if not the hdmi.

Charter charges $9.95 for the HD DVR box per month in addition to everthing else and the channels are free ecxcept Discovery HD, ESPN HD and one other they are an extra $2.99 per month.

My cable is $167 a month for every channel offered with HD on one set, 2 regular boxes and 2 DVR boxes and 4Meg internet service.

Yeah MotoGP 06 is from THQ who made MotoGP2(PC, XBox) and MotoGP 3 URT(PC, Xbox) the new 06 is MotoGP3 for the Xbox 360 BUT they are updating it with the current teams and riders! Check out these screen shots! Don't worry I wont link you to porn like some members here :0
MGP3 for the PC does look amazing but I have seen some really amazing graphics on the 360 with the plasma even though it only runs 1024X768 it is more the realism of the surfaces and more polygons. Project Gotham Racing 3 is pretty amazing as is Perfect Dark Zero but I think MGP06 is going to be way better since they have more time to utilize the 360's hp. It comes out in May sometime and you may actually be able to get a 360 in the store by then!
