fuel pump external 99/00 7,000rpm tickover

Hi hope somebody can point me in right direction,just done the usual filter change on pump,came to start up,it revs to 7,000 rpm i must have put something back wrong but i can not see what,8 times taken pump apart now,checked on assy model everything seems in right place?????????????

You didnt accidently bind or move your throttle cable did you? Lift the tank and make sure the throttle is fully closed and resting on the throttle stop. Oh, and welcome to the oRg.

checked all that straight away,that was my first thought, It fires up on the button but revs straight to 7,000 plus rpm ,so i just hit the kill switch,could it be something to do with pressure regulator?

Try to fit a regulator an watch the fuel pressure when you rev it, beetwen 40-50psi sounds like you need a new fuel pump...

Pump works fine,bike only done 8000 miles from new when i purchased it 11 years ago,i think i have put something back wrong or missing something simple ?
