Cush drive play/slop, Is any movement okay?

I'm trying to get my throttle roll on smoother as it is faiy "snatchy" as another member called it. My wheel spins about an 1/8" before it catches the cush rubbers. Are the rubbers supposed to be dead tight or is there some kind of tolerence (like allowable play)?

Manual says nothing except to replace when worn.

1/8" is a good bit of play IMO. They're not that expensive or hard to replace.
