I've never been union and I live in a state where you can't be forced to join the union. I've worked with and along side many union employees and you wouldn't believe what the union pulls out of their checks. Widows funds, orphan funds, etc.

I do think that unions served a greater purpose in the beginning but only serve themselves at this time. Union membership is way off because of all the union jobs lost over the years because companies just could not turn a profit and meet the demands of the union.

For me the turning point came when Reagan let go of Air Traffic Controllers. Anyone around when that happened.

It's not about predicting the future based on a random drawing. It's about learning from history to see a future consequence of today's actions.

This social experiment has been carried out before and the consequences are in black/white for anyone who cares to read it.

My wife is peruvian and she lived there when they nationalized the banks and inflation shot up to 2000% overnight and everyone lost everything. She voted for Nobama and now she's regretting it. She never thought it would happen in the US and here he is moving in that direction. She's scared now as am I. I'm seriously moving my money to another country (not Switzerland). Fortunately my best friend's brother works for a Cayman Island bank so I can get a decent deal on account setup fees.

Unfortunately it's going to be 20 years before I'm +equity on my house. Oh well, win some lose the rest.

 You are so paranoid! ...the world is coming to an end!

There was a caller on the radio (XM Bill Bennet show) the other day that was a State worker for Arizona.

He said it was a little slow so he and a few others were going to pull weeds that day.

$38.00 an hour.

Pension
Insurance
no fear of getting fired for no reason
And lets see if it wasn't for my Fathers pension my mother would be living on the streets!
Your right why would anyone want that?

Unions aren't about that anymore. Now they just find ways to stuff their own pockets and make it impossible to fire lazy employees. They had their place when Americans weren't so damn complacent about everything.

I'm not in the union, but I have a pension, I can't be fired for the heck of it ( protected by labor laws just like every other American ) My pension and 401K go to my benfactors.

So tell me why would I work under the fear of a Union. Ever heard the word scab, or picket jumpers.

Exactly! Early years of Industrial America Union membership was what, around 30% or more?

Complacent? You're to kind.

Well thats great Im glad you have a good job!

I've heard the term "Forced Strike", and they only get paid crumbs during the strike.

A sister of mine worked for Fred Meyers in the mid 90's. They went on strike for over 3 months. She got paid $2 per day to picket. HOW DO YOU SURVIVE ON $2 A DAY?????? Fred Meyers then promoted her to a managers position. She had to cross the picket line to keep her job, and the union still required her to pay her dues. The Same union reps that told her to join the strike were making threats to her. A few nights it got so ugly that I escorted her off of the property so they would leave her alone.

Do I dislike unions? No. After what I witnessed with my sister, hate would be a gentle term.

I won't take that comment personally cause fact is, I'd do anything I can to help anyone here no matter your point of view on politics, religion or my looks (as handsome as they are).

I will however let my credentials speak for me: I have degrees in physics and economics. I am the Vice President of a successful company and have been an CxO for over 10 years with different companies.

Neither I nor my company have received a dime of government handout or bail-out monies. We employ many good people who look to us to protect their jobs. That's part of my responsibility. In doing that job it is my task to watch the world economic climate (we are a global company) and be prepared for opportunity and disaster. I do not believe the world is coming to an end. I do believe our fellow citizens made a mistake and elected a non-qualified government (congress & executive branch) and many are starting to regret it.

So, in the end I speak my opinions from experience, not paranoia.

You really should feel protected by labor laws. Most of the judges get to take vacations and other perks from business associations.
Why would you fear a union? Did someone call you a scab?
My 401k and pension also go to myself and my family should I die.
I am sorry for jumping in so hard but your comments are not true and I can't let them stand as fact.

Obama is turning out to be the worst thing this country has seen since it's founding. If the Card Check bill passes it will destroy many thousands of small businesses, plunging millions more into poverty with it.

Nail on the head. Anyone who votes for this must not know what it really is. Why would someone not be for a secret ballet unless they wanted to force votes.

Being that small business still employs about 90% of the U.S. workforce .

Can you cite this statistic? I have been looking but I can't find it anywhere... Thanks

This is what I dug up:

What is small firms’ share of employment?

Small businesses employ about half of U.S. workers. Of
116.3 million nonfarm private sector workers in 2005, small
fi rms with fewer than 500 workers employed 58.6 million and
large fi rms employed 57.7 million. Firms with fewer than 20
employees employed 21.3 million. While small fi rms create
60 to 80 percent of net new jobs, their share of employment
remains steady since some fi rms grow into large fi rms as they
create new jobs.

True story: A friend of mine worked as a regional director for services in the health care industry. As such she was always coming in contact with union organiizers. Over the course of a year or so my friend became aquainted with one woman organizer in particular and would chat with her at events they attended together. After a few events my friend noticed that this woman organizer was not attending anymore. She asked another organizer what happened to her. My friend was told that she was fired for trying to organize the organizers! Unions dont want THEIR OWN employees to be unionized! WTF?

When you get tired of looking at the UAW, all you gotta do is look at the Postal Service...

I have been in the union for over thirty years; it has provided me a decent income and health care. I don't like every thing unions do but it does give you some protection from bosses that are psyco-bulllies. It also eliminates the favoritism seen in many non union jobs. Most of my peers do their fair share but we do have slackers---- to be fair, there are plenty of slackers in the non union job market too!

in a non union slackers can be sent home alot easier.

I've never been in a union so I can't sit here and say union is not the way to go. Thats not even the issue.

The question you have to ask yourself is why don't they want it to be in secret anymore? That's the issue. If a union is truely in the best interest of the employees than they will vote that way in private.

Card Check is only going to open up the door to coercion, bullying, bribery, and peer pressure.
