Got the bike on stands and taken apart (all I have to do is loosen the chain and old front sprocket should come off)
the sprocket does not look nearly as thick in the tooth area as the old one -- is this normal or do I have the wrong sprocket.

will post pics as soon as i find the &%#&%$# who took the batteries out of my camera -- (&*&(*^% christmas!!!!

It's not! The teeth should be the same width but overall the 16T is slimmer and much lighter than the OEM. I haven't had any problems with mine or heard of any from anyone else that did the mod.

Seems that we posted at the same time.

My sprocket was a tad slimmer overall (because of no excess metal around the sprocket like your pic shows extending beyond the teeth) but the teeth were the same width from what I rememeber.

Your sprocket does look mighty thin.  Are you sure it's for a BUSA?

yes i just did mine last night since my busa is in my dinning room. I thought so too but i made a few phone calls and it is the same just lighter i went with a jt sprocket

well there is an offset built into the new sprocket -- looks like it faces inward & lines it up the same as the old sprocket. Its bolted on loosly and seems to be okay (splines the same etc) -- just made me a tad nervous. The teeth are physically smaller -- so still dont know if thats going to be a problem -- but the teeth fit the chain lengthwise perfect. Now to see if I have enough adjustment left to take out the slack

thanks for the replies -- was freaking out a bit

BTW nice trick with the suzuki dirtbags putting a locking nut on the switch stand bolt --- SNAP!! -- (^%*&$#@

g/f showed up with new flouresecent fixtures right after I broke that off -- well next time there will be sufficient light

haha-- dont think so -- already have one verbal warning from the g/f -- grandkid is over and is asking about the loud "strange" words coming from the garage
plus your dreams have come true for all you northern and east coast guys -- its now $*^%#ing raining on me

but  if  you  put your bike in the house  much  easier
If I put the Busa in the House, much less the living room, my wife would

me. You must live alone or with a Motorcycle Moma, me I would have to

That looks like its for a 520 conv.

Be Careful, there not as stronge as 525 nor 530... but should work if needed to

I would just get a 520 chain and rear sproket if you tend do that.

That is the wrong sprocket, I wouldn't run it. The extra material on the stock sprocket is for noise reduction, but that's not the problem with the new one. A Busa needs a GOOD 530 chain & sprocket set to avoid breakage. 520 conversions are usually reserved for 300 tire conversions, which are really just a poser thing anyway for the most part. Running that 520 sprocket with a 530 chain around it will rapidly wear the chain rollers. That is, if it doesn't break. Chain failures can have disastrous results, best not to skimp here.

Why did you have to take the stand switch off?? I have never had to in the past.....

Maybe it is just the way your linkage is adjusted.

I would not run a 520 sprocket on a 530 chain. I may neve cause a problem, but then again, it just might. Why risk it over a $20 sprocket?

the bolt through the shaft shaft arm wouldn't clear the switch -- so I had to yank it off -- not a huge deal as I had a replacement bolt (serveral in fact -- that size length is pretty common in my junk drawer)
I only have a bit over 1k miles on the stock setup and wanted to go with a 16t in the front -- did not know stock was a 530. Don't want to waste a perfectly good chain either.
rode it around the block just before the sky fell here -- no unusual noises etc. Felt like a pretty big difference, but then wasn't wearing gear so didn't bust on it.

It looks to me like there's gonna be ALOT of chain side play on that sprocket, and I doubt the pitch is right either. With a 160 hp machine I really think your playing with fire. Do a search and see the results of breaking a chain.....it can do a lot of damage and possibly kill you. I really wouldn't take the chance. Just get the right sprocket and ride without worries

Don't use a 520 sprocket with a 530 chain !!!!!!!!!!
wow.gif

Busa's will destroy any sprockets and chains other than good quality 530's

I found that if I loosen up the bolt on the shift shaft and then I can pull it out without removing the bolt completely. I never loosen the SS switch.

got a 530 coming -- guess its back on with the stock sprocket for now
should be able to do it a lot more quickly now
