Machine work around these parts is a hell of a lot more than the cost of a piston kit. You might try looking for a thinner head/base gasket too. How high do you want to go with the compression ratio? What kinda horsepower are you looking for?
its a gen 1, if some one is charging you 1000 bucks to mill the head, then i could see why u would go with a drop in piston kit. but it should only be around 200 bucks
SS rules don't allow bigger pistons or different pistons last I checked. You might want to get a rule book if you are planning to race in a certain class....
The only local machine shop here sunny southern Hel...I mean california wants $800 to mill the a head (they are an engine builder and they say that is for any head) I only asked about small block Chevy heads but they did say any. I figured if that was the norm or close to it it would be better to get the piston kit. Are the gen 1 engines interference fit?
