because of money. shaving the head will raise the compression and doent cost that much. i can do all the work but the milling

Machine work around these parts is a hell of a lot more than the cost of a piston kit. You might try looking for a thinner head/base gasket too. How high do you want to go with the compression ratio? What kinda horsepower are you looking for?

What gen bike is it? The new bikes already are above 12:1 and are interference fit. Mill the head on a gen 2 and your gunna have problems...

its a gen 1, if some one is charging you 1000 bucks to mill the head, then i could see why u would go with a drop in piston kit. but it should only be around 200 bucks

SS rules don't allow bigger pistons or different pistons last I checked. You might want to get a rule book if you are planning to race in a certain class....

i may have mis-understood:

are you building this to race a specific class?

The only local machine shop here sunny southern Hel...I mean california wants $800 to mill the a head (they are an engine builder and they say that is for any head) I only asked about small block Chevy heads but they did say any. I figured if that was the norm or close to it it would be better to get the piston kit. Are the gen 1 engines interference fit?
