Last time I put a new chain on my busa, I replaced the sprockets as well. When I pulled the cover off the front sprocket, I noticed a LOT of grease and grime built up there. I cleaned it out as best I could. I also noticed some rust colored powder or something in there. After replacing the sprockets and cleaning it out, I put it all back together and now (about 2000 miles later) I am noticing a rust colored build up on the chain itself. I haven't removed the cover yet to see exactly what it looks like near the front sprocket. I'm wondering if anyone has ever gotten that rust colored stuff up there or on the chain. The bike is a 2003 but I have over 23,000 (yes THOUSAND) miles on it. Let me know if you have any ideas what this build up might be coming from.

What do you mean by splines? If I just spray some lube all over the front sprocket will I hit the splines?
