yea, we used to call them wrist bands or sweat bands

They are good to have around the resevoir if they're independant of the master cylinder. Helps prevent any brake fluid going where you don't want it.

Primary use is to sop/soak up any brake fluid that might leak in the event of a crash or when filling/checking. Brake fluid eats right through paint. You'll see them on a lot of trackbikes. Also helps keep UV off the plastic reservoir which degrades over time.
