I just bought a new computer and when transferring info from the old one I came across these pics. Two days after hurricane Katrina me and 39 other retired cops and military from around the country met in Birmingham and went south to help in the rescue operation. It was life changing, as much so as experiences in the Marines. pics below

Great pictures. I was there for 2 weeks a few months after helping to rebuild.

Remember it well. Had some damage to our house but not as bad as the good folks in Mississippi and Louisiana . Our power was out for 3 days but there were places it was out for months.

We had 5 or 6 employees of my husbands company (all MS. folks) stay with us for 2 weeks or more because their homes were unlivable in one forum or another.

I drove through New Orleans a year after the hurricane and was floored by the level of destruction. The news channels did it no justice. It was devastating to that city.

But, whomever built a city below sea level was a moron. ???
