Just wanted to give a quick little report, gotta crank the grill up.

Today I put in new plugs NGK CR9E, that were gapped correctly, the stock ones weren't, synthetic oil (MX4T), a Wix oil filter and a TRE (TRE actually went in on Sunday, but today was the first hard ride with it).

Whether it was the new plugs or the TRE, the idle smoothed out. I LOVE synthetic oil, it shifts soooooo smooth, clutchless shifts at 9500 + just snick snick snick.

For those of you that don't think a TRE is worth it, that is a cheap mod that you can feel in the a$$dyno.

Guinevere accelerated like a new bike.

Anyway there it is, just a quick report. Have a great 4th and be careful, don't blow your fingers off or you can't ........ or ride. LOL

Cool and thanks for the review!! I'm changing to full synthetic and getting new plugs next week for my '03 with 19k on the clock. Second time changing the plugs. First time using synthetic on this bike.

Where'd you get your tre and how much $?

I thought I read that the tre actually makes your bike idle rough and the one to get was an atre (smart tre) that switches off below a certain rpm.

I have no idea if what I surmise is factual, someone please straighten my arse out.

The TRE came from checkered flag and I think it was about $30 or so. It is not the smart one, but it doesn't seem to get weird in neutral. Here is what I have been able to gather. I think it is correct.
The timing in our bikes is retarded in the first half of the throttle in the first 4 gears. The TRE makes the bike think it is in 5th gear, so your timing isn't retarded at all. You have more tq available to you. The speed restriction happens in 6th gear, but since the bike thinks it is in 5th gear, the TRE also removes the speed restriction.

My TRE actually belongs to a buddy that is relatively new to the Busa world and want to get comfortable with the stock tq before he gets a little more. He gave it to me until he is ready to put in on his bike. On my list of mods is the atre/gear indicator unit to be installed into my mirrors along with turn signals. That is down the list a bit tho.

Hope this helps

Wow...an Atre is $159...

Do you have a PCIII on your bike as well?

seem to me what I'm reading is although the PCIII is going to improve air/fuel ratio...the ignition is still handcuffed, and to completely unleash the beast, you need a tre or atre.

My question is (and this may sound strange) is it too much. The Busa is a sweet riding bike that will get it and go, but I don't want to have to fight with doing wheelies in traffic with every minor twist...does the increase in lower torque sacrifice ridability??

Don't ask Don that, he's a maniac (picture shite-eating grin ear-to-ear when he hit 8000 in second and the rear tire came loose- definitely mental, but in a GOOD way.)

I'm the rookie who loaned it out to him for now, I just don't need that much yet. You still have driveability, you will just have to re-learn where in the throttle it gets dangerous. I rode for a couple of days with it installed, no problems but I'm not using all the bike has to offer as yet, I'm going to get there gradually and alive.

Don is grilling burgers and packing to leave town tomorrow, but he can add to this if he logs back on. He got the WIX filter (part #51359) on the assumption that if it's good enough for NASCAR it's good enough for him. Peeps here say don't use Fram or cheap brands, the WIX is $10 or so. I'm picking one up tomorrow for mine.

Yes my bike has a PCIIIusb and is loaded with the Hindle bolt-ons w/K&N air filter map. At 7502 miles the plugs looked perfect, exactly as they were supposed to.

Future mods include full HMF dual high mount, the Power Commander Ignition module, PAIR removal, the small air box mod, atre and gear indicator combo installed into a mirror along with signals and probably the ram air tube seals.

After that will be a dyno tune. I am a big guy 6'2" 250lbs. I am shooting for 168 to 170whp. We'll see how close I get.

As far as rideability with the TRE. Is much smoother in the lower RPMs and less "On/Off". It is the best $$ that Shibumi has ever spent.

Maybe I'll just try a tre for $30 and see how that goes first.

I looked for checkered flag and didn't see it on google...you guys got a link??

Or anybody else, good place to snag a tre? (and not the forest thank you

8000 rpms in 2nd and the rear tire breaks loose...I just crapped my pants and probably buying new plastics.

I do that now (8000 rpm is second) and all is well, that's what I'm talking about.

I have a Smart TRE, and it made my bike idle smoother. I think it's the richer fuel mix from the ECU seeing all the gears as 5th. I thought the extra ignition advance made it seem a little goosey in slow traffic.

Ahhh...ebay good idea found one...

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRE-for-GSXR-600-750-GSX1300R-HAYABUSA-1000_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34284QQihZ009QQitem
Z190004278315QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW" target="_blank">Ebay tre link</a>

What the manufacturer has done is to make a separate ignition map for each gear.

<span style='color:red'>This has been done for either safety ( wheelies / wheelspins off the throttle ) and / or emissions reasons.</span>

further down...

<span style='color:red'>BUT BE WARNED!! THIS PRODUCT WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE, SO TAKE TIME TO GET USED TO YOUR ADDED DRIVABILITY OF THE MOTORCYCLE.</span>
