sorry brother...I'm an avid dog lover and I know your happy and all and I wish you the very best but...heard of and have had way to many bad experiences with that particular breed...best advice?..get some books...do some reading and learning on how to train and keep your dog well tempered and behaved...and always keep it inside, leashed or fenced or any combination of the above...and btw?...if it's a male and you don't get it neutered?...don't be surprised if one day soon he doesn't try your authority over him..I had that go down with a 168lb male rotty we owned for 11 years a while back...nd one day?...not only did he decide that he wasn't quite sure if he should hafta obey my commands anymore but...I think he even decided that my own presence in my own home wasn't welcome anymore..and what followed wasn't pretty.

But if it's a "Her"...then as long as ya show 'er lots of love you should be fine....just don't let'er be 'round and loose if any of your friends or strangers start play fighting or wrestling around or threatening you in any way...the females are extremely protective...where the males are extremely possessive.

Best wishes regardless and congrats...L8R, Bill.

Thanks guys!  I am not knowlegeable on dogs.  I know Staffordshire bull terrier was just mentioned but I did not see any with red when I just searched. I am become to know them ass Red nose pit bull. I named her RUBY becuase of her red nose lol. The dog female.

The owner just gave her up.  My brother seen the dog with the owner in our neighborhood everyday. In his yard with the leash and everything. Even saw when the guy pull her out of the box when he first got her. And that was within the last 6mos.  Last night a friend of my brother found the dog and later gave it to my brother.

My brother returned the dog to the owner and the owner said it was not his even when it was.  If I have to give him up I will try to give him to the owner again just to make sure he still doesn't want it.  My brother is such an animal lover/protector its crazy.  He houses any stray dogs until the owner comes for him.  He even had this wolf dog before the owners came.

that dog looks to be an American Pitbull, or Red Nosed Pitbull.

Its the North American version of the Stafforshire.

The Red Nose will likely be OK with most humans,as long as they dont rattle him too much.

My advice...attempt socialization that dog with as many dogs, cats, kids etc as soon as possible, and as often as possible. He will have a genetic disposition too shred other animals. Its not a charachter flaw, its his genetic makeup.

Pits,Rotts, etc require special ownership. You have a lethal animal in your possesion, and you and the family must be prepared to deal with that. Carefull with the dog around children. A kid can poke a Beagle in the eye with a stick, most likely the Beagle wont do anything. You poke a Dobi,a Rott or a pit, and it doesn't like it...yer kid will need stitches.

Do not chain this type of dog up alone hour after hour, you will not like the pet you end up with. Yer dog is HIGH maintenance, as are my dogs(Rott's).

Hope I dont sound like I'm preaching,I care for dogs and kids.

A Rottweiller has a jaw strength of about 2000 pounds per square inch (the most of any dog).

Every seen a human bite someone. That force can hurt and do some damage. A human bites with about 300 pounds per square inch of pressure.

I'm a firm believer in the old saying..."Not too many bad dogs really...but there are lots of bad owners".

Not to imply you are a bad dog owner.

Canada has ten provinces. Two of those Provinces have outlawed the ownership of that breed of dog. There are reasons why some folks just dont want those types of dogs around. They can be a little "nuttier" than some other breeds.

I'll answer any questions you have about training etc.

I've had Rott's,Malamute/Wolves,etc...some of the most un-trainable breeds ever created. hit me up anytime.  RSD.

just be carefull. train her well and give her lots of atenttion. these dogs can become very attachted so watch her when you play ruff around her. and be carefull with kids if they play ruff she may get overly exited.

Being that the dog is a rescue, you will definately have to pay extra attention when strangers/strange dogs are around. You can do dominate things with the dog to help reinforce that you are the boss.

You eat first, then you feed the dog.
When you play, roll the dog over onto their back and hold them there for a few seconds.
Obedience training, just simple commands. Sit, stay, come, down.
When walking the dog, teach the dog to heal next to your leg slightly behind you. A dog that leads its master on the leash can start to think its in charge of the walking.

Check to see if the dog is toy or food aggressive. If she is then work on it to remove the aggression.

Have fun with her and good luck!!

dang I didn't know all what it takes for these dogs. Thanks RSD and Charlesbusa I will definately ask more info if I decide to keep the dog. We have a curr dog that looks exactly like this
P9070015.JPG

And I was told that the Curr dog will beat a Pit bull in a Curr's territory. But my brother takes care of her, so when he wrestlings with our younger brother the Curr gets aggressive against my younger brother who would be the attacker. So I can imagine that the Pit bull will do that too. I will have to tell him to stop it immediately before it gets out of hand. Thanks for the warning.

For sure socialize the pooch cause they love to be the dominate animal or they will force the issue and hurt another animal....I have had a staffordshire and she was the best dog I ever owned...their great pets if you raise em right
