Well with my way you dont cut anything, just removed the little rubber bushing thats in that fairing hole....I just couldnt bring myself to cut a hole in the fairing . Tapping the frame wasnt a big deal though, and it was very easy since it is aluminum. And the whole base of the slider...

We used regular one that normally require drilling of the fairing, but instead drilled out the frame where the fairing bolt goes and tapped it, to accept the larger bolt. No fairing trimming required

I use both...on my bike, both do the exact same thing. That is, remove slack. I think the idea is to keep the cable even, so adjust some out of the accell and the rest out of the decel. But im not 100% sure.
