Red Tails (2012) Movie

In the history of Hollywood and the film industry there haven't been too many films telling the tale regarding American heroes of colored origin. This is one. For those who don't know who they are or were click here >>> Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. - Home <<< As a history buff I'm looking forward to it. Starts this Friday.

True Story

I'm a military history nut so i'm going to see this also. There's plenty military history about all ethnic groups that have fought and died for America that never makes it to the silver screen or talked about in grade school history books.

By a show of hands:laugh: how many people know that the youngest American that died in the Vietnam war was a 15yr old black American.

Looks good, taking what they did and putting it on the big screen is a great thing but I don't think this is the first movie about it, for some reason I remember Laurence Fishburne in one, it probably wasn't as big as a Lucas film. Even though I'm pretty sure it's not the first time the airmen have been to the White House, I think it was cool that the President invited the original Tuskegee Airmen to the White house to screen the movie.

Speaking of learning history, I grew up in DC and in school we always learned about all American history Native Americans, Black, White etc.. I thought all schools taught this and I was surprised to find out that a lot of schools don't, it's completely omitted from history. I don't think people today realize that because this was the most successful group out of all bomber escorts it pretty much ended segregation in the military and showed that with equal opportunity, training and equipment that they were just as good or in this case better than most. I remember reading that they painted the tails red to distinguish themselves and built up such a repetition that enemy fighters often decided not to attack bombers escorted by the group.

Now Blanca, keep in mind this is not a factual documentary. It's a "Movie" made in "Hollywood". It's made to be exciting and sell tickets! When you began to believe what comes out of Hollywood it's time to give up your guns and voting rights! :rulez:

No Chris, none of them were "true stories". They advertise them as "Based" on a true story.

BIG difference!

Remember Michael Moore, the master of deception!

Tuf Hollywood couldn't do them justice. The TRUE story is far better than any movie could ever be.
Yes it's a movie and will be entertaining and full of unreal action but it depicts real and actual events that happened long ago in a land far far away :)

Forgot to mention that my Grandpa was an airplane mechanic for the Army Air Corps during WWII. He had some good stories to tell and some of them were about the Tuskegee Airmen. I had him speak during my 7th grade History class when we were learning about them. RIP Grandpa!

The 332d did a great job in WWII; they had a great aircraft platform (P47 and later the P51), and performed admirably, all the while dealing with overt and outright racism both within the service and outside the wire. I applaud their service and wish some more of them were still alive to speak to the black inner-city population about what they went thru and the postive way they made something of their lives, in spite of their disadvantage. A positive role model instead of the hip-hop, gangsta role models currently made popular.

Er... no.

In fact, Hollywood wanted nothing to do with this film, due to its all-black cast. George Lucas had to use his own money to produce/distribute it.

Linky-link: The George Lucas project Hollywood wouldnt touch.

George Lucas, Michael Moore,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Is there a difference.

It's one man's exagerated (in order to create excitement) views that is derived entirely to enrich someones bank account, his own. Do you actually think George Lucas made this movie in order to educate you? The coolaid is cheap and it taste great, eh? :dunno:

Remake of the Tuskegee Airmen movie of a few years ago:

Airmen Movie Trailer (1995) - YouTube[/url]

The new movie looks good despite all of the CGI flying scenes.
