Who Rode Today?

I did my second ride of the season yesterday. It was not too warm in the morning but there was full sunlight. I mention the warming sun because I felt every bit of squirrelly behavior over every single tar strip that I ran through. Perhaps the tar is fresher, laid down after this winter? The bike has stock tires, I run near rated pressure, and I do a lot of slower park area riding.

That's normal for the tar snakes and patches.
I've found that no matter the bike, the tires, their psi, or the tire or air temperatures really matter. Which of course the all have an effect, but the bike's handling over tar patches is never consistent.
The bike may ride over the tar like it was never there, or slip or slide a little as it does.
Regardless, like any other part of riding, for the most part I let the bike do what it wants, and give it just enough input to maintain control.

I recall hitting the tar snakes on the old biased ply tires in the '80s...the bike was all over the place..

Over the years as tire performance improved, tar snakes became nothing to worry about...unless you are leaned over hard on a hot summer day...there's a little slipping then...

There was a road I hit incidentally in a previous year on the busa, as I was roaming and deliberately getting lost. A large portion of it was tar. It was 35 or 45 mph and a very thin 2-lane road which means I was close to the opposing lane as I slid unknown distances. I ran it under the speed limit and was being tail-gated, while in a constant state of skid and white-knuckled panic. I rode it successfully. So my question for you Doc is: Should I have worried like I did or should I have gone right up to traffic speed and continued to ride with good technique? What about solid tar roads? LOL.

I personally ride to the road conditions...If that means I go slow, I go slow...

I was out today and encountered roads that were covered in tar snakes and it is a hot day out there, they didn't affect me one bit but I was cognizant of them...
 
Well I made it, all 403 miles :) and three mountain passes, Ebbetts @ 8,730’, the Monitor @ 8,314‘ and the Tioga @ 9,945’. That’s 615’ short of two miles high. The elevation on the east side of the Sierras is anywhere around 6-7,000‘ and higher. High desert it’s called as you head east into Nevada. No animals to dodge just a few rocks and for the most part the road was good. My V1 saved me twice. One was so close that when I came into view of the CHP, as I passed he hit his overhead lights and waved. I love that thing! I took a shot of two different trees about five feet apart at the river’s edge to show the difference in their bark.

You live in a lovely part of the world with great roads and views
 
I took the old K model GSXR out for a 200km jaunt the other day, goes great but feels under powered and very cramped seating position compared to the Busa, feels very old world lol.
The tires are 17 years old so was very cautious about corner speeds and lean angle etc.
I got home and spotted the left fork seal leaking like a siv, so off came the front end and new seals and oil done.
Brake pads also oil contaminated so new pads this week.
Pretty happy with the old girl overall.

Yeah,would be more but i've been riding the Busa's until a spot was available for servicing. I dare say it's a bike that has it all and could do it all with ease. If for whatever reason i needed to sell a bike,it would be the first to go but won't be happening in the foreseeable future. The LE is partially retired from riding [170,000kms] and the Blue K8 is almost at 90,000kms.

Still a cool looking bike even compared to the modern stuff....
 
I was gonna but I thought I’d detail the Z after my lil ride over the mountain. Three miles of new road base (packed dirt/mud/gravel) on the east side of the Park really dirtied up the lower half. Bugs too of course, even on the front wheel! After a few hundred miles even the leading edge of the levers get bug splattered! I wish they’d make the whole bike outta the stuff the mirror backs are made of. They clean up waay easier than other painted surfaces. :laugh: Cleaned and lubed the chain too @ 18,850 miles. The DuPont chain lube seems to be working ok and the chain looks a tad cleaner than when I used Maxima, although both are wax based lubes. Doesn’t look too bad even after 400 miles. May take out the Busa mañana.

Nothing like that near me here in Ohio but I went out yesterday and thought I would stretch her legs after getting the Brock exhaust pc5 and Mafia flash and see what is different. Got a state route that is near me that is not crowded on Sunday's most of the time. Quick straight stretch without any cars in either lane. Went from 70 to 170mph so fast it was surprising. Just got into 5th so who knows what the top end is...lol I so want to do an LSR....
 
I went out Friday evening, and about 30 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but it got too dark for pictures by the time I stopped.
I did see a Yamaha Warrior cruiser in a parking lot before dark, and was suprised to see it had inverted forks and fully adjustable suspension, it looked like a nice ride to take a passenger on.

I so much wanted this bike. Instead bought a Yamaha MT-10 :(
