I was running 87 octane and Just installed the power commander 2 days ago.. what should I fill it up with?
Already have a TRE as well. Thanks

Seeing as how you didn't change anything internal to alter compression why would you change grades? Stay with 87.

What's a TRE???

(Commuta_Busa @ Aug. 15 2007,07:39) ahh just curious why you installed a power commander?
why not...

because no mods are mentioned and no mapping was mentioned... to just toss a power comander on wouldn't have any effect so why do it....

I disagree. There is room for improvement with a power commander even on a stock Busa. Mandatory, no way…. But the busa was tuned from Suzuki with the EPA guidelines in mind.
Look at the DynoJet map for the stock busa. And look how much fuel they are adding in the 2000-4000 range in the 2% to 20% throttle position columns.

Adding a PC is not a bad idea on a stock Busa. You are not going to increase overall full throttle horsepower much, but drivability and the part throttle torque curves will improve.

It is also an item that is almost mandatory when installing a full pipe. So you already have it there and are able to take some advantage of it prior to other upgrades.

Oh…. Stick with the same 87 octane fuel you are running. It has been proven to make more power over 87-91 octane pump gas in the relatively low compression Busa.

Well said! I will always have a PC on my bikes even if i dont have anything else on the bike.

There was an article on a r-6 where a PC was added on a stock bike and the result was good ridability and slight increase in HP & TQ

true, I can't argue with that and do agree with what youre saying.

But it's kind of like the one guy who wants to replace all of his steel bolts with Titanium ones so the bike has less weight and is easier to flick back n forth in the corners.... yes, it'll improve things.

If your future plans call for a full exhaust then slap the power commander on there. But don't pay extra for ampping until after you get the full exhaust system. Of course you can have it mapped each time but I guess it's hard for me to suggest to someone to spend, spend, spend....

Rick

I agree that a PC is not needed on a stock bike...also agree that it will help smooth out the low to mid range, which will make it a much more responsive machine.

The problem with this is that it should be customed mapped on a dyno to see these benefits and MOST owners are not going to spend the extra $$$...so that is why they should just save up their money and do the exhaust (full system), PC, small box mod, and a BMC air filter all at once.

We are close to being on the same page.

A stock bike with a PC and a downloaded map from dynojet is going to be closer to our desired performance than the stock Suzuki tune.

So a guy that is saving for the future mods can go ahead and install the pc and run a generic map and see some improved results.

Once they are complete with the mods and have the extra money, they can have it dyno tuned.

I'm betting about 50% of the results of a good dyno tune can be seen with a generic map. There is still a need to tune that particular bike by a good tuner for the best results.

Quite a few do not have the patience to save for the all-at-once approach. I kind of fit into that group as well!

Stock bikes can vary quite a bit when it comes to drive ability issues...I think that if your bike runs well...don't mess with it till you can do all the mods AND tuning at the same time.

Anyone notice when you fill up with 93 after running 87 - the bike runs like @(*% for a while? I have been using 87, and then I'll run 93 maybe one of out every six tanks, and it stalls a lot when I go to start it up after the fill.

I use 91 for my car and when I had my TLR, isnt it better to use a 91 insted of 87, isnt it a better gas grade. Better for your engine? Or am I wrong?

The Busa engine is tuned for the lower grade fuel...try some RACING gas and see how BAD it will run.

87 is the best fuel for the Busa

87 is the best? are you serious? man i have been filling up the tank with 91... tell me your kidding? i thought the better octane on the bikes works best?
