My impression of Oregon has always been, that if you got a ticket, it's gonna be expensive cause you where really pushing it. I've had cops pass me doing 80+ down there without a thought. I've heard similar things about Nevada

Washington passes em out like gum drops, being the nanny state it is, but they didn't make the list. So maybe being on this list is a good thing.

Do these states charge more cause they give out few but more valid tickets?

SC 10 over $77, 15 over $128, 25 over $180, and above that $440. You can be jailed for reckless driving 30 over vs. speeding. Magistrates are limited to a fine of $1000 and 30 days in jail for folks deciding not to pay. Most of the time everything gets reduced to the minimum and there's no special treatment for first time offenders, etc. There is habitual offender law, but it's rarely used.

I can tell you that the Kansas HP have NO sence of humor

. You speed (5 over) and your risking a ticket. If they stop ya, I don't think they have ever heard of or ever used a WARNING ticket. Especially from out of state

. No, I've never gotten a ticket there, but a bunch of my riding buddies have, including a Dep Sheriff who they know, for doing 10 over. He can't wait for them to drift down this way

Speaking from experience.

75 in a 65 zone cost me $247 while passing through Oregon. Probably saw the Calif. plates and figured I could afford it.

In New York, I was caught doing 88 in a 65, I sent in the ticket guilty because I live in CT. Didn't feel like making the drive. The first ticket was from the town, 175. Then I received another ticket for 300 from the state.. What is up with NY? 475.00!!

Iowa just bumped up all their tickets last summer. I got a ticket for 55 mph over when I was young and dumb and it was only $167.

this is an incredibly misleading post. how were these stats gathered? are they just going off ticket info or actual decisions by the court? in theory, a state could have a min 25 dollar charge per ticket all the way up to lets say 10,000 dollars making it both the cheapest and most expensive state at the same time. then you have to factor in tickets pet capita. i can go on and on, but i won't

(ozz @ Jan. 24 2007,17:02) Wow even oregon beat out cali    hard to believe we arent NO.1
Yeah, how the heck did we do that? Seems like CA goes out of its way to be as punitive as possible for almost anything.
