PAIR-removal or not ??

I have got mine Akrapovic installed and it gives sometimes a backfire.
I don't mind this, but can this hurt the engine or does this cost HP?
What is the actuel purpose of the tube's that are removed? (they must be there for an reason)
Anyone?

You will be happy and your motor will even be happier No H.P. gain but weight savings
