anyone else see this? The video is horrifying... the story is worse...

Strange how they leave out the pics of Donald Rumsfeld delivering all those chemical weapons...

Todays friend is tomorrows enemy...

Yes, he was a ruthless bastid...but how many can we count in just our own lifetime...Stalin died in the early 50's and Saddam is a child compared to what he did...Stalin wiped out the entire literati of his country, some of us are old enough to have heard of Hitler's terror of the Jewish, Pol Pot in Cambodia killed millions they say, the Congo wars where hundreds of thousands disappeared in months, the Balkan mess where the UN sat on deliberations for months and hundreds of thousands of people disappeared and were murdered and found in mass graves...makes our little Civil War seem like just a skirmish...Did you know that the Germans surrounded St. Petersburg (called Leningrad) and froze/starved out over a million Russians during WWII without invading the city. 2hip

Another thought I would like to express about Saddam Hussain...how on earth was he handed over to the Shiites for a mockery of a trial? Did he deserve to die...probably...but why wasn't he handed over to the world court for a fair trial?..It was nothing more than a mob lynching and I felt like we were complicit in his execution...I am sure many saw the video of his hanging from the cell phone pic that were posted on the web. He was composed..not cowardly..and chastized his enemy to behave like men not animals. Maybe it takes men like him to control the severe hatred the Sunnis/Kurds/Shiites have for one another. I have lived overseas for extended periods of time and I have felt the hatred other countries feel for Americans because of our philosphy towards other cultures..in that...we want them to be like us...it is unrealistic and poorly thought out in many situations..Is it well intentioned?.yes...will we ever bring the Muslim world to think like western countries...in my opinion..never in a million years.2hip

That's Right! I also here it is much better over there now that Saddam is gone. Bush even walked down the street with no escort!:moon:

This is what I was thinking around the time of the beginning insurgency. I have heard the same sentiments from many others.
Yes, I agree that he was a tyrant but tyranny may be necessary to quell unrest.

What, the way he behaved like a man and not an animal towards the hundreds of thousands he killed? And his sons who tortured and killed as well? Sorry but I have zero sympathy for Saddam, his acts of torture, terror and murder far outweighed any good he did towards quelling the violence in his country. He was violent towards the Shi'a and Kurds because they weren't of his descent - just like Hitler towards anyone that didn't fit his "supreme race" profile. He got better than he deserved by being hung - many of his victims were not so lucky to die as quick as he did.

Take it from someone who was there a couple times while Saddam was in power and a few after.
Dont forget pretty much up until the Gulf War Iraq was 'our friend' and you could still travel there.
Its not safer now than then with a big PERIOD !
2hip has it right. It took a ruthless dictator like him to control folks like that.
They dont want or need democracy and we need to accept that.

The reason he was handed over to the Shiites is for future appeasement strategies.
We will need them in the future...and then will turn on them just like we did Saddam.

We took out Saddam for one reason ....$.....and that is all. He personally was leading the group of nations that wanted to change from the 'Petrodollar' system and create a 'Petroeuro' system.
He wanted as well as many others to bank his oil money in Europe in Euros and if he had been allowed to do that it would have meant the collapse of all as we know it because like dominos one by one all nations would have converted to a euro based trading system and we would be done. The American dollar is still the recognized world currency. No other currency can you exchange in as many countries as GRINGO PESOS ! Believe me, I travel.
We put that fire out quick.....anybody else still thinking bout doing the same....we thought so ....no sit down and shut the F up....is how that went..
Now only one is still insisting on a Euro based system...
Any guesses on who....?
IRAN...the next war over $...
