The reason he lost was not because his numbers are not visible it is because the way his plate is mounted you can not read the state. I am sure that is what the judge looked at to make sure the officer won.

That is a big deal now, seeing the state on the upper part of the plate. This means your plate is not displayed properly. Me and Joker had a discussion about this last weekend.
