My favorite place to stay on the Nevada border is finally opening up on the 4th and I’ve booked a room @ the Topaz Lodge. Anyone else up for a ride? I’ll take 4 over Ebbetts pass and ride back over the Sonora pass on 108 unless (doubtful) the Park opens up in which case I’ll ride back over the Tioga pass on 120. The Lodge has rooms, two restaurants (do you like elk chops and lobster tails?) and a casino. There’s also a Chevron station there as well. Can’t wait!:D

Wow
Jealous
Wish I could but I got spark plugs and block off plates looking at me sideways
I've researched Topaz as a potential destination. Didn't know you were a regular there!
Have fun!

Spark plugs and block off plates? Never heard (that) excuse before. I stay there once or twice a year is all, no gambling, just a nice room and eats. Riding over 2-3 passes in a day is quite taxing due to the massive amount of up down corners in the mountains. Riding at a slower pace allows me to enjoy the ride more and...commune with nature.

Finishing up an (8-page) article on Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass right now. Should have the page posted in about a week.

First tour next weekend June 12th riding Mosquito Ridge, Ice House, Monitor, Ebbetts, Sonora & Monitor again. Fun region to ride!

Pics are all Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass

amazing photos! thank you for posting. I hope to be making my trip next month when this Covid thing gets better. I will post some photos! I am glad I found this forum.
Welcome to the ORG @johnsonstevens!
You might want to drop by the New Owners Forum and tell us a little about your ride, riding history, and your trip plans. All of us LOVE photos, so feel free to post up pics of your bike as well as any trip photos you might snap while on the road.

Thanks for posting and ride safe!

Aaaaahh . . so THAT's why you bought the Z lol.

Hmmm, you’ve seen my pics. I’ve ridden nearly 70,000 miles over all types of terrain thru eleven states from below sea level to over 11,000’. And that’s just on the Busa. I gotta feeling you don’t have any 11,000’ mountain roads down there.:p I’ll admit that climbing mountains is easier on the Z, that up and down around switchbacks slowly is much harder (on me) riding the Busa. In my 50s and 60s it wasn’t so bad though.:D

Oh man, temps in the 80s @ 5,000’! I checked the temps over the mountain and I may just take my mesh jacket! I normally wouldn’t for a ride at such high altitudes but maybe I will. BTW, for anyone living in the south, hiway 395 is OPEN

Bon Voyage!!
Pics, please!

Our tallest mountain, Mt Cook, is 12394' and last time I checked there was no road up to the top

Well boys and girls, I sure had a good time. The Topaz Lodge was not quite up to par on their first day opened but the bed was comfy. As for the ride, I’ll let the pics tell most of the story. Most are from hiway 4 and 89, the Ebbetts and Monitor passes. Up top and on the east side hiway 4 is a very physical ride. The Sonora pass over 108 also has some tight corners but not nearly as many or as sharp switchbacks as 4. Once high enough you run out of two lanes and the road is unlined and about a car and a half wide. 108 had way too many sandy/gravelly corners at higher altitudes. No problem for cars but on two wheels, a real worry with some real pucker moments. From 97 to 72 degrees. One thing most don’t think about is that the west side starts around 2,000’ and crests at nearly 10,000’ but you don’t just ride up and then down. There are valleys and meadows and lakes up high and when coming down the east side you end up at around 6,000’. That side of CA parellel to NV is already a mile high. Some pics are dupes, with one being on full zoom, but a framed pic doesn’t do the scene justice, seeing it live and in person is what really makes the ride worth it. Reception is good up high too. I FaceTimed my buddy in Wales at almost 8,000’ while taking a break to show him the view. I’m limited to just 30 pics in one post but I have more.
