no body but myself works on my bikes and I check all of them regularly. never will get to "metal to metal" in any aspect.
Sometimes it's good to have another set of eyes look over your bike. I wouldn't have caught it, because the front pads are fine and the rear ones should normally last a lot longer. Plus, they made no sound and the bike didn't feel any different.
