A little more information on this story.
The kid was 18, Elkhorn is a small farming community where you can leave your doors unlocked. The hospital is across the street from the jail and the only one within a 30 minute drive or so.
The kid requested to use the head and was granted the permission. (for DO3's thought). An outside agency is conducting the investigation for Walworth county. The Deputy tried tazing the kid and "It did not work" per the deputy, the kid tried to break a window with a chair and when that did not work he went after the deputy with the chair and that was when he was shot and killed. I was no tin the room with these 2 so I am armchair policing when I say this- There are/were other options to restrain this young man oter than pushing lead and taking his life. Gun shots should be the last resort.
Now to answer Projekts question. As I laid in bed last night unable to sleep I thought long and hard about all of the shootings lately (Vegas, Aurora, 4 Here, Newtown...).
Again I come to the same conclusions - Nobody seems to take life seriously, a gun should be the last resort for conflict resolution not the first. Mental health does need to be addressed. The issue is being tackled by the military and failing. It is sad when a person reaches that low point where they feel no life is better than the life they have. It is even more painful when they feel the need to make others suffer by taking innocent people with them when they exit this world.
This nor any other death is a matter to joke about or blow off. Yes we have too many people on this earth but death is not a joke.
