I'm not sure what I have, Malware? Zlob? I don't know but my CRAP AFEE missed it and now my google, yahoo searches get redirected hrena.com (and other sites) unless I right click and open in new window.

I've done a virus scan with McAFee and AVG. Did the anti spyware checks with Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware but this one problem remains.

I joined bleepingComputer.com but it can take days to get help and was wondering if there were any computer savvy folks here that could help me out
please.gif

Thanks,
Dawn

You've got a trojan. Not easily removed I might add. In some instances it's easier to back up your data i.e. pics, documents, music, etc and format the drive and reinstall your operating system and applications.

If you have the patience you can try the method described HERE.

If I try the 'method described here" do I still need to back up my data?

I'm not very computer savvy as you can tell.

Thanks for your help.

Probably a good idea to do that either way. And really scrutinize your drive to be sure that you've gotten everything that you want off of it, just in case.

Yikes! Sorry to hear, Dawn

I've had really good luck with Spyware Doctor from PCTools. http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/

I would give it a shot. I had a nasty trojan once; tried everything else - was about to reload the entire PC. Spyware Doctor removed it!

MORE LIKELY THAY YOU HAVE TROJAN.OR MAYBE LIKE IN MY CASE YOU HAVE SOME AD-WARE PROGRAM INSTALED FROM SOME ROGUE SITE
I HAD SAME PROBLEMS FEW TIMES
FEW TIMES IT WAS TROJAN- BEST WAY TO GET RID OF IT RESTORING YOUR COMP AND UP THE PROTECTION(UPDATES OR POSIBLY NEW PROTECTION SOFTWARE)
OTHER TIMES WERE SOME ADVERTISING SH@%. IT IS LIKE LITTLE SOFTWARE BUT VIRUS OR SPYWARE SOFTWARE CANNOT DETECT IT.
THERE IS TWO WAY THAT YOU CAN TRY
FIRST IS TO TRY REMEMBER WHEN YOUR COMPUTER START ACTING UP AND RESTORE/BACK UP COMPUTER TO DATE BEFORE TROUBLES STARTED.SOMETIMES WORKS

SECOND THING YOU CAN TRY IS TO GO TO "MY COMPUTER" THEN TO "WINDOWS" AND LOOK THRU THE FILES
YOU MAY BE ABLE TO LITLLE FILE WITH NAME OF THE TROUBLE.IF YOU FIND IT YOU JUST DELETE IT

IT WORKED FOR ME,MY COMPUTER WORKED AFTER THAT JUST FINE

i HOPE THAT HELPS

This stuff is just beyone me...LOL. Might let Randy do it. I've been trying to fix this for 2 days now.

My virus protection caught 2 trojans on Wed. and removed them but I had some adware, got it off so I thought but this one problem with my searches.

If you would stop downloading the p0rn Dawn!

Also be sure to check for updates to Spybot Search & Destroy (and any other programs) before running them. You may have a newer strain of virus or adware that is not getting caught.

...then install FIREFOX 3 web browser and delete all teh obvious IE icons

the exe files are hide in the system 32 area for the trojans and other garabage, if you know anything about system 32 you can find and delete them without reinstalling windows. if not pm me with a lot more detail and ill try and walk you threw cleaning the beast out. under system 32 that one is usually listed kdwoy.exe find it and delete it. do all this in safe mod.turn off system restore first. then do this. clean all the cookies out also. in system 32 the file will be hide, go to c drive..windows...system32... on the top go to tools...folder options....view...click show hidden files...unclick hide protected files. now you can find the trojan and delete it....after all this just recheck hid protected files and unclick show hidden files.

The thing I like about Spyware Doctor is that if it detects anything it usually will reboot your computer THEN run its scan and clean BEFORE Windows has fully started up. This is an essential step to ridding the OS of those nasty bugs... Because if they have a chance to startup, it can be difficult to remove many of them.

A lot of the 'malware' will actually run multiple instances of itself; with each process watching over the other. If one process gets 'killed' (like when it's being cleaned), the surviving processes will just start up another instance to keep it running! That's why the cleaning before Windows startup is so beneficial...

goto ( http://us.trendmicro.com/us/home/ ) then on the red bar up top click on .. Home&homeoffice ..then on the lower rightside of that page click on Housecalls .. in the "freetool" bar.. for myself and others it has found "stuff" Nortons,McAffe,Spyware and etc ..never found. goodluck.
