How often should a cam chain be check for tension? Is there any symptoms of a loose cam chain?

On a Gen I, you'll hear A LOT of rattle coming from the right-side of the motor if the cam chain is loose. Make sure the engine is warm, if you hear A LOT of rattle...especially when you blip the throttle, chances are your chain is loose. If it's an early model: '99, '00, then it could be a bad tensioner; there was a recall for them. On a newer model, it could still be the tensioner, too.
