Busa in cold weather!

Can we just talk a bit about our experiences with the Busa in cold weather?

It was 25 degrees this morning, had to run an errand, and the Busa just fires right up like a champ. It makes me proud!

I just wanted to hear from you guys. Do you have the same experience when its cold?

Or if you have any funny stories about when it was cold, just fire away. Just thought it might be an interesting subject. Because my Busa seems to be Johnny on the spot!

When it gets cold, my Busa goes into hibernation..

Other bikes I've owned I rode in some sketchy condtions...one I rode home from work in a snowstorm...about 6 inches of light snow was on the ground and I rode home with a Military Police escort...

I used to take my dirtbikes out in the snow...that was quite a bit of fun however, it was hard to tell what was under the snow sometimes..

Not a problem

Haha, I don't blame ya. The Busa really isn't the bike for sketchy conditions!

Not a problem

Absolutely beautiful photos! Looking forward to taking my Busa on an adventure one day.

Not that it gets that cold in my town, but the lith battery doesn't like anything under 50F. Power up the bike for around 5 mins then crank.

Tires: The Mich Road 5's on now don't seem to mind the lower temps, but Dunlop Q's are more of a SoCal tire IMO

Apparel: Leathers help if the wind chill dips below 40F

It's been my daily rider - all seasons - for a couple years (For some reason I find this new Hayabusa video review annoying. | General Bike Related Topics) ...and yes, I couldn't stand the review either

Before I got old and wussy, I used to ride whenever the roads were clear. Heated grips for the win.

Gorgeous bike btw! Would love to get some heated grips at some point!

Haha, 40 is average here in the winter! lol

I haven't tried riding in the cold for years but I remember the busa didn't like to start in cold weather as well as it did in warm.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't start up at well, but its like a dream compared to my carbureted VTX lol!

Before I got old and wussy, ........

biiiig grin

the wimp here
who all his live long freezes "near to death" when it is lower than 12°C / 50 F

i was around 20 or 21 when i got wussy
because my mom bought a car for me for cold times - means lower than 12°C / 50 F

that behavior stayed with me over all the last 40 years
so all my bikes go to hibernation from mid of oct to end of march

i love and adore  my "webasto" remote-controlled parking heater in my car

the wussy wimp
from across the pond

What’s a remote controlled parking heater?

I'm getting a Webasto coolant heater for my tractor. Sometimes it's too far away from a electrical connection to warm up. I'm sure I'll be loving that remote control heating start. Gets stupid cold around here.

@WuzzaCBXRider
@ZeePopo

a heater, like mine, who heats the passengers space by the coolant circuit of the motor is for the liability of the motor the best choice
because
if the heater is started some 10 minutes (by radio-control ;) ) before starting the motor its coolant is already around 50°C warm what then helps the engine because its oil is already warm.
i personally let my heater work some 5-10 minutes over the time point when i started the motor.

so my resume is the colder it gets outside , 10-15°C and less, the better is such an extra heater to pre-heat the engine by its coolant. ;)

My brother's BMW has heated grips and seat...I told him I figure if I need those options, I'd drive my truck. You can heat everything but the tires, if the pavement is really cold, I would think the tires wouldn't stick very well...if you had to brake hard, they'd lose traction pretty quickly...

I find even on a cool summer day my rear tire can become loose really easily and I have to watch my throttle hand closely.

I usually take mine out a few times over the winter as long as the roads are free of salt, been trying to explain the cold tire thing to a buddy of mine for a couple months now and he just doesn't get it and ended up dumping his cbr that we just picked up and paid too much for during the covid price hike. Now I gotta replace the fairings and some other parts but luckily I don't think he did much more then cosmetic damage.

Modern bikes might be a little better as you can turn on the traction and launch control at least which would negate a bit of tire spin, then a better ABS system should stop the front end from washing out in heavy braking.

I can see the benefits of a Can Am Spyder when it comes to cold weather riding, slap some winter tires on and have heated gear then ride all winter on one of those puppies...
