Are the stock headers different from year-to-year?

I just got a stock header from someone to put on my 2004 Busa. The header I received has the black mid-pipe welded on. The one I originally had was separate (chrome mids)...

Am I retarded b/c I can't get it to fit, or are they different from early to late years?

Some of the earlier years had the black mids that don't come off. I know the '01s have black mids. As far as I know the headers are interchangeable, but obvously you can't switch out the mids if they are attached. I would think you could get the headers and mids on though. It might be a little awkward, but it should fit eventually.
