2nd gear costing me big..suggestions

(johnstein @ Dec. 22 2006,20:14) tell them you want to have it undercut , the trans will be just about bulletproof when its done , and it should cost about 600 less , reason why ? cause you dont want to rebuild the stock trans every 3000 miles ! dont replace it with oem parts the same thing will happen ! you can call the suzuki directly , i did , the dealer gets realy pissed offf when you do, but anyway after three months of arguing with them they were willing to give me a 400 dollar credit , so i wentwith the undercut for 1500 , mine had 4000 miles and was les than a month old still no warranty coverage !

+1, It's probably to late now, but some one suggested getting in writing from the dealership that it was under warranty and then presenting them with the problem.

Good Luck

Woth all the mods we do a 1.5 K bullet proof tranny sounds good, a tranny that never breaks sounds better, but you're beyong that.

(RCKTMAN @ Jan. 02 2007,17:37) make them show you in their warranty coverage where it says they dont cover the transmission. DUDE screw that get an attorney that is well versed in dealing with bullshit like this. They have to cover it, they are trying to strong arm you.

DO THE LEG WORK, GET YOUR BIKE FIXED.....
I agree. It tool me several trips and about three weeks to get a copy of the warranty, since it's not in the manual or paperwork you get at purchase. From memory everything is covered for one full year, exception obvious abuse.

I'm glad I don't have any trans problems... but I'm dealing with other issues because of a slam!

Suzuki has millions of dollars, so if they're smart they need to take care of these issues... because if they don't, they might see sales drop off... and Kawi might actually see more 14's heading out the door!

I broke my second gear at 25000 miles but,, I had it lowered and strapped and with the extra horses was still able to ride wheelies , long story short i was goofing off and paid for it with a new undercut tranny from a builder in South Carolina. Mine was also around 1500

Suzuki needs their azz kicked for making a bike that heavy with that much power and not under cutting 2nd gear. I believe it's just a little insurance to get you back to the shop and spend some more money. When they fix it back stock it's just going to happen agian.

I have just started a poll concerning the 2nd gear problem we have been hit with. I am really begining to think it is a factory defect that is not being addressed. I am looking to get some backup to confront Suzuki about it. Hey! I am not going to spend my hard earned cash on an 08' and there's something that they could have been fixed to go wrong then have to spend a couple grand to fix myself.

Don't know if jumping out of second gear is the same as slipping... but my 05 jumps out of 2nd under WOT. I was thinking of trading it for an 08 because i'm sure the dealer won't honor the warranty. Not so sure now.

Reminds me of the BMW problems in the early nineties with the coating they were putting in their V-8 4.0 powerplants. They said their cylinder deterioration was caused by too much sulphur in the Southern States fuel supplies. NOT....I talked to an actual company that etched and coated cylinders for a living with a long history. BMW just had a "slew" of bad engine blocks with inferior work performed.
You forgot to mention one little thing, BMW replaced all those engines with new one under recall.

I, too have an 06, with occasional 2nd gear slippage at over 6k. used to be over 8k- I have the extended warranty, and I too will see if this is covered, BUT- Johnnycheese has basically stated that this is from, either lazy shifting, or non clutch shifting. I am not real easy on my bike- and it has 11k miles on it. It is a little coincidental that alot of 06's and some 05's are having the same issue. Makes me think there is manufacturer error.

03 busa 14k miles and my 2nd gear is going =/

Golden child how much would it cost to undercut the tranny for us who are interested? You should run us a group buy discount heh

Wow, after reading some of these threads, do I really want a Busa?
Don't let it scare you away.

1) The issue is not limited to Busas at all.
2) There are far more of us without the issue than with it.
3) People that are having problems seem to be the most vocal about it. (same as any other problem in life)
4) I've got about 275-300 1/4 mile passes at least half with an air shifter and 2nd works like a champ on mine.

I am however going to send a transmission off to get worked...just in case.

Here is a link showing some info on what the damage looks like.

+1. Everyone that has a problem is also a better engineer than the factory guys. 40,000+ miles on my '05 and no transmission problems.

Okay, if the gear is slipping and not popping out of gear into neutral, is it the gear that needs to be replaced, or the fork?

All the above! or maybe a clutch! One thing you don't want to do is take a short cut when you are in there! parts or machining is a drop in the bucket to getting it open and then buttoned up! We need a poll that has a truth detector with it! 06 with 19K had the false 5th or 6th a few times, but always changed the oil when the trans started shifting clunky, went to full synth @ 5K miles. But no wheelies, burn outs, or clutchless shifts under torque! And still shifting like A zuki should! I have heard of alot of probs though!!! Now if there is an actual MFG deffect? We need to all get behind our trode on busa brother...! Lets get a pattition together, our screen names should work. I have an extended piece of worthless paper I will be trading back in, if needed to prod em into thinking.
