    Default Escort Passport 9500ix mounting

From what I can gather, there seems to be quite a few of you guys running these. I got mine today and I'm trying to decide how I should mount it. I may velcro it to my Moto-D mount I use with my Iphone. I'd like to see how some of you guys did yours as well.

I'm also wondering how well the radar works from behind since our bodies kind of block the pickup for it...

    Thanks All!

Your body will/should/could NOT interfere with it. As you may have already done so, it works just fine inside your car where the detector is surrounded by hunks of metal/plastic, etc.......much thicker/denser than our bodies

I made a bracket to fit between my right mirror and 1" mirror extender. I ran the audio cord and the power cord to the right side through the upper dash panel. BTW, if you're going to use an audio cord to a set of ear buds or helmet speakers... YOU MUST USE A MONO INPUT ON THE 9500ix!!!!! I can't stress this enough!!!!! When the right and left side of a stereo input are pushed into the 9500ix and power is turned on... the right and left channels merge together and will overdrive the audio chip! It'll immediately fry! I unknowingly did this and Escort DID repair it under warranty (as they unintentionally omitted any literature warning end-users about using stereo inputs instead of mono inputs with these units).

I've not had any issues receiving Ka, K, or Lidar

I'm at work right now and don't have access to any decent closeup pictures, but I'm headed out to Cedar Point this afternoon and will take a few pics of my setup if you want.

Mr. Droo, also very interested in your mounting option/location and will greatly appreciate pictures. Also, major thanks for the warning re: using MONO input

I took a few pics, but they were garbage. I took them in the garage and they turned out terrible. Here are two close ups of it while on the dragon at SB12 (Spring Bash 2012). I'll take a few more today... outside this time.

I don't completely agree. They are supposed to be mounted in the center of the windshield under the rear view mirror which in theory has an unobstructed view through the back window as well. Not blocked by Bodies and metal.

Thanks for the pics Mr Droo! How are you attaching it to that bracket? What constant speed has it been tested at?

Have used my Escort on 5 different vehicles (2 trucks, 2 cars and 1 SUV) and position it in the dashboard. Front has an unobstructed view but the REAR is a different story: seats, rear window, rear hatch, passengers, etc. And NOT once has the detector failed to function. Went on a 2-day, 1800 trip last year with the detector inside a tank bag mounted on the gas tank with me in front of it. Again, the detector performed flawlessly.

Above is my personal experience which is the basis for my earlier post. But hey, OK for us to agree to disagree

Good to know it works in the Tank Bag....... That my prompt me to put it on the little shelf in between the windshield and the Instrument Cluster.

I've had it mounted this way in excess of .... triple digits, we'll say. Here's a few I snapped.

Thanks all for the responses. After trying different methods and locations this is the one I've hardwired for and I'm sticking with. The Detector is sheltered from the elements, and is held into place with Velcro on the bottom and the suction cups on the top. It doesn't wiggle at all and is very happy here..

Hey Nitro, are you using the aux input for a set of headphones/ear buds? Just a simple reminder to you (if you've forgotten) and anyone else, MONO INPUT ONLY! Bacon smells fantastic when fried, Escort RD's don't! You can use a mono to stereo adapter down the line if you need to, but a boostaroo, Amplirider, or similar will mix the stereo and mono outputs.

    nitro,
In case you're still looking for mounting ideas, I finally got mine done. I "assembled" a kit using RAM pieces to mount my RD and GPS using the clutch reservour mounting bolts. I can take/post pictures later when I get home.
P.S. I was all set to drill holes in my windscreen using the kit that STEALTH_BUSA above used but I swap screens around (ZG touring and DB) so ditched that option.
