Steering Dampener

When installing my HID's, I noticed that my steering dampener had about a centimeter of play in it, and since this is my first bike with a dampener, I wasn't sure if this is correct? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes the steering "DAMPER" should wiggle around a little.
You should also replace the rat piss for oil they put in it with some 80-90W gear oil.

Well, does anybody know how to change the oil in the steering dampener? I've done it on the rear end of my old SUV, not sure if it's anywhere close to that, but it WAS gear oil(80w-90).

This is the way I did it. I took it off. Brought it down to suzuki and for $7 they got the extreme pleasure of emptying it, disposing of the oil,
resubmerging the entire DAMPER in 90W gear oil and then pumping it until there were no more bubbles, then you replace the
torx nut before you take it out of it's bath.
The whole process is very easy and very messy, so for $7...they did it and then I just brought it home and re-installed my steering DAMPER...
