For discussion: science is good and making stuff do other stuff. quite a lot of it is out of laziness, but that personal opinion aside,

would you want a PILL that makes you be in love with someone?

I'm not talking about sex, but if real love is defineable scientifically with various physical reactions and mental states combined with pheromone attractants, would you want a pill that did that for you? The object would be to "BE IN LOVE" with someone as real as real gets via ingestion of a pill.

There is an illegal drug called ecstacy that make users feel all "lovey dovey" but that is not what I am talking about at all. I'm taking about LOVE.

Discuss!

re: Would you want a "Love Drug"?

The "Hug Drug" MDMA... was legal for a long time.. walk into the bar, buy a few right at the register and party down... (is a methamphetamine btw) moved to schedule 1 drug in the mid 80's

Now dont they have the actual chemical mix that causes the "love" sensation?

I do not think I want the "Love" drug... some big fat ugly chick (or SJ) might slip it in my drink.... would have to chew my arm off by morning...

Thats why they call them the good old days...oh the early 80's.

3-4-methylenedioxymethampheta-mine

For the real question WAG - No.

Biscuit stop projecting.

As to this type of drug. No I wouldn't want to to exist.

Ugghh...No!

Why would you want to be "chemically" in love with the wrong person? Isn't love all about that fun, happy feeling from the right person?

Hey did anyone catch the "House" re-run on cable last night?

"Love" hurts too much. I'm through with it..

That aside, NO, I would not want it if there was such a thing...

maybe you are in a long term marriage and seem to be missing that aspect of being in love with your mate?

We have pills for EVERYTHING else, why not love? If it FEELS the same [non sexual] than it IS the same, albiet chemically induced, correct? We could engineer happiness, excitement, fear, sorrow...

is there any reason why we should NOT do that?

I'm leading up to anything, just wondering what people's perspective is on this. We have pills to fix headaches, depression, children's activity level, etc etc etc, if we can why not love?

There are already drugs to control your mood so if your moods and by extension emotions are simply chemical reactions in your brain, it is possible to control them with drugs. It is a little creepy.

no drugs for me thank you. If it ain't there it ain't there... you might end up with one hell of a chemical dependency with somethin glike this.

hmmm if your partner was really pissed off at you for doing something wrong would you be able to slip two or three in her drink and everything would be good again?

No Thanks!! Been in LOVE once,.......got the T-shirt,.......and rode the emotional roller coaster that comes with it. NO THANKS!!!!

Exactly. I was stretching our current mind set thinking about how many of our issues are already "Fixed" with drugs.

Your statement gives the impression that by using drugs the situation is not really "fixed". But if all our functions are essentially based upon chemical changes\imbalances how is fixing an infection using antibiotics any different than fixing depression using anti-depressants or fixing an allergy by taking an antihistimine?
