A woodpecker has decided to lay claim to the vent atop my chimney that exhausts the spent gases from my fireplace.

Why is this dumb fug attemting to drill thru my steel vent.???

Does he have mental issues...or is he just trying to dull his beak.

Idea's :welcome:

he's just doing it to get at ya rubb

Why Woodpeckers Peck Your Home
Woodpeckers damage structures for basically three reasons:
1. Searching for insects;
2. Creating cavities for nesting and shelter; or
3. Marking territory (a common phenomenon called drumming primarily during the months of March/April/May).

i would bet the later on this one the Mating season has begun......

You forgot # 4

4. To annoy humans by banging on metallic objects out of the human's reach

yeah and i didnt know they are a federally protected bird either...

He might also be enjoying the heat from the chimney! Since he is there and it is warming his little buns, he figures he can just peck the time away. How they stand up to all that vibration and neck/beak abuse is amazing. People would be crippled for life with that action.

No...he's even dumber than that. He pecks at the chimney top of a gas fireplace we never use. :rofl:

We have a 98% efficient gas furnance that is vented thru a different chimney.:laugh:

Good thought thou.
