Why should I move to Cali?

Okay, I just wanted to get a little help here. I am currently in Texas and have been here my entire life. I was just recently retired out of the Army due to a medical malpractice that caused me many life long injuries. My wife and I have been discussing moving to Cali. Ive been there before and stayed in Ventura California, and I would like to get a place around there. We want a house close to the ocean, and would like to smell the ocean in the air. I am aware of the difference in the cost of living so I am planning on that. Can anyone give me more reasons to move to Cali. Im here at Fort Hood/Killeen so there is nothing to do here. I have a wife and two kids and love doing family events. So what is it Org? Why should I move to Cali? All help greatly appreciated.

Mods please move to correct location if this is incorrect.

As a single man, I would say do it! With a family it might be a little harder to make that decision.

I fell in love with San Diego. I would move out there in a heart beat if given an oppurtunity.

My wife is from San Diego. Its just a much needed change for us. I just want to hear reasons to move to cali. Why Cali is the place to be.

Cali is great...There isn't 120 straight days of degrees over 100. Riding, riding, and more riding. The politics are awful though, Especially when compared to Texas. It's a handout state with lots o hands...out! The environment that Cali creates just get in your blood. So much to do and see within 500 miles. If you are a nature lover, its fantastic. In the southern part of the state there really isnt a winter unless you are above 5000 feet. State parks, federal parks, ocean, skiing, riding. All in one day!

In the end home is what you make of it anyway. If you come around, let Lamb know and he'll show ya around!

Oh yeah, we will get that swingarm extension off that bike for you and wear out the outside of the tire before the middle.

You should move to Cali to help the insanely liberal state pay down its budget deficit by contribution money through its insanely high tax rate. However, there are some tremendously smart people out there. They must know more about cancer than anyone. Nearly everything I pick up is known to the State of California to cause cancer. And they also like to share their brilliant people with the rest of us. We can thank them for producing the completely idiotic embarrassment that we all know as Nancy Pelosi. No way would I move to that state by choice even if it does have some awesome scenery and roads. They can keep it and all the loons that go with it.

Yeah my family and I love the out doors. I was able to spend two weeks there with a friend and she took me everywhere. We were staying in Ventura which is where I am leaning towards. I had nothing but good things to say about Cali, but of course I was a tourist lol. Im not big into politics either.

Lmao, I knew that comment was coming sooner or later.

Everyone has their reasons right lol.

Only thing that is really getting to me is how strict they are with modified cars. I have a highly modded Evo and all I see is people getting fix it tickets over there. My car would not pass emissions. Are they strict with loud bikes? Another thing, I am a gun owner. In Texas we have the castle law which I absolutely love and are for. I havent read up on the California gun laws. Down here we can carry with no problems. In Cali I hear its different. A whole different world lol.

If I lived in another state, I absolutely would not move to CA. I love my cars, bike and guns.

I can't have a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds in any of my guns
I have to have a tool to release the magazine from my rifle
I can't have a silencer
I can't buy guns that don't meet very restrictive (and becoming more so) CA laws
I can only buy 1 handgun every 30 days
Every gun you buy is recorded by the state. When they want them, they'll come get them.
If you're lucky you live in a county that will issue a CCW (very very lucky, fortunately I am). San Diego/LA/San Fran, no chance.
When I do buy a gun, it has to sit with an FFL for 10 days while I cool off. Nevermind that I have 50 other guns I could use.

That's just the gun issues. Don't get me started on the outrageous taxes and intrusion on 1st and 2nd amendment rights that run rampant here.
Oh, and gas is average $4.30/gallon. Diesel is $4.60 or more.

The good stuff here?
We have curvy roads
We have the ocean over there <--
We have mountains over there -->
We have snow skiing up there
We have girls in bikinis down there
My wife and my job are here so I am as well

In the end, it's up to you. Do your research. Thanks for your service!

We have our share of grief here. Jobs are tough to get. Coffee is expensive. Traffic is murderous. Lot's of unfriendly folks, too.

But the wine is good, the roads are a slice of heaven, and the weather is near perfect.

We'll leave the light on.

To answer your question, Calif is very strick on vehicle modifications, most of which are considered illegal, especially if it has to do with emissions or exhaust. However, Calif is the only state that doesn't prohibit lane splitting.

There are probably more reasons (as others have mentioned) not to like Calif. But what does keep me here is that fact that I can drive for an hour and go skiing in the morning and then go to the beach in the afternoon. There are plenty of things to do, plenty of places to ride, great weather, great food, and great scenery.

The liberals and the environmentalist rule the state and it seems that common sense is very rare these days. They would sooner pass a law or raise a tax to protect an "endangered" species of mosquito than they would to protect our children's enducation.

Living here is very expensive compared to Texas. If you can put up with that, then welcome to Calif!

The Socialist Peoples Republic of California?

While I agree the view, landscape and scenery is epic, I could NOT take the politics, political correctness gone insane, gangs/violence and other just plain crazy stuff that goes along with it. Oh, did I mention Earthquakes? I was out there and went thru a mild one in the mid 80's - NO THANK YOU.

I lived there for 20 years due to my job. I escaped as soon as I could. The positive reasons mentioned above for moving there are all true (especially the roads, scenery and lane splitting). However, I will never move back there for all the negative reasons mentioned above.

I'll take earthquakes over a tornado or hurricane any day! If we could just export the politicians...
