Why are most tires only rated to 168mph?

Hi guys. My Copper Busa has nearly bald tires and I was perusing the different tires on Dennis(?) website and most all tires are rated to 168. Shouldn't we be getting #'s to 200 mph? Thanks if you can shed some light on the subject, thanks

Speed ratings are set for "sustained" speeds... if you plan on running at 168+ for sustained periods off the track, you should consider a new hobby

(or have good life insurance)

There is a "special" high speed tire meant for Busa's--I forget what the extra letter is.

Anyone remember Kel Carruthers? He "stepped off" a track bike at ~170, slid a LONG ways, then stood up as he stopped!

z rated tires like Diablos will just have a + on them. I've been well over 168 (indicated) on the stockers and Shinko 005's. I think they're just like everything else. If it says it's good for one thing, it's normally good for that plus some established margin of error.
