what's best to use on aluminum rims for polish?

On my recent acquisition, there are aluminum wheels. I tried using Mother's Billet polish on them, but it appears to have no effect. Any suggestions?

Mothers is good.
What is the problem with them?
I was just trying to shine them up, and when using the Mother's polish I don't get any black residue as if they were dirty. But, they just look kind of dull.

I'm wondering if the clear coat is in fact on there. They're on a '97 ZX11.

Never dull is awesome, and if it dont work then they probably are clear coated.
