what about the 2004 yamaha r1???

Well, it drops 180hp at the crank, but by the time that gets to the tire it should be more, like, 160, which is what the 'Busa does. Though it's lighter, the 'Busa does probably have a good deal more torque and what with its aerodynamics should have the edge above 150mph.

All in all, it'll be a close call at the top end but the 'Busa should still take it and prolly the 1/4 and 0- numbers as well (thanks to the torque).

Feel better :D ?

I kept reading in the R1 specs that the 180 hp was made with Ram Air, I wonder if they were simulating road speed with a fan to jump up the numbers a little. Without the ram air I still imagine it would make 170 HP at least. We will have to see when the mags get a test bike.

A quote from Factory Professional Tuning Components

What is True Rear Wheel ™ Horsepower?

Crank HP vs. True Rear Wheel HP
That's a tough one - and LONG....
The short?

Take crank HP, subtract 14.5%, take that, and subtract around 10% to 15% and you'll get about True HP at rear wheel.

The actual formula contains a curve for power loss through gears and there’s another curve for power lost in a tire....
Remember, too - that you are only likely to get a crank number from the manufacturer and that's probably a "good" one that the marketing department is providing... (Sound of blowing up marketing and sales balloon? :-) That's not everybody - but it has happened - leaving names out! :-)
When someone gets engineering data from engineering...... give me a call - :-)

Guys, do the math ...... 2004 R1's 180 hp at the crank 143 - 153 depending if they utilize include the power curve for the tire. I'm sure that still puts it close to the GSXR 1000 has the claimed 150 hp to the ground. Who really knows who's telling the truth? I guess we need to wait for a shootout.

From what I understand though, the R-1 is going to make it's peak at an ungodly high rpm, that really isn't going to help too much except maybe on a track. I prefer my power where I can use it. I don't really think it's going to be TOO much of a threat to the Busa's crown.

What about the 2004 yahama r1?

All you need to know about it will be in your rear view mirror... ;)
