got a speeding ticket on the busa Saturday. was clocked at 98 in a 65 on the bypass around town. a town cop said he clocked me and radioed ahead. I was pulled 8 miles away by a county dept. was not speeding then. now I know being that this is a busa forum, MANY people on here have gotten tickets of this nature. what was the outcome? how much did it end up costing you? I called one lawyer and he wants $450 and he said the best he could do was have it reduced to a careless and reckless! I haven't been pulled for speeding in the past 4 years and it was dropped. my driving record is perfect.

any ideas on what I can expect? if it does get dropped to careless and reckless.. that's 4 points! how much could I expect insurance to go up?

lets here everyone else's experience

I'm not sure of the specific names, but I always hear of lawyers that specialize in traffic tickets and they usually do you well. I'm sure more will chime in...God luck!!

Do you have a radar detector? Good investment for those speeds!!

94 in a 45, chopped down by the officer to prevent going to jail that night. SA knocked it down to a small fine and 1 yr of what amounts to probation (no citations in a yr and it's off my record forever). Judge asked where it was at, since it was leaving town and not in a congested area (actually should be a 55-65 where I was at) he was fine with it. I might add that the speed was literally for just a few seconds, getting ready to turn off to work and the cop had me clocked coming up the road for nearly a mile doing 44-45 in a 45. I blipped the throttle for just a second and at the wrong time (he was hiding at night, no lights on, no way for me to see him). He made notes of all of that in the report which the SA and judge both looked over.

Always check with the SA's office and see what's on the table for traffic school or court supervision. Every situation is different. IMO a careless/reckless is much worse off than a speeding ticket. The C/R ticket is a catch all from what I'm use to seeing....display of speed/acceleration, drag racing, weaving traffic, etc. I don't know if your insurance would rather see a speeding ticket or a c/r on your record.

I thought anything 20+ over in NC was automatic jail? That's what I was told anyway....

Got one two years ago, same speeds, Illinois State police. Ended up costing me $246, not that I remember, and 6 months court supervision in that county. I didnt get stopped in that county and the ticket is basically off my public record, thought I've had a few tickets before, taken court sueprvision for ALL and I dont think any show on my public record. Call the states atty. office and talk with an assistant S.A. Ask if they offer anything like supervision, driving class, etc.

+1 on getting good representation...a specialist should know how to proceed~!~

i think you could do better than careless and wreckless on that, check around like others have said..good luck its gonna cost some $$$ though

98mph in Florida would not warrant a reckless citation for simple speed.
I have been ticketed at over 100 and got just that a whopper of a tic but not reckless ?

Also here 75 bucks will get you a ticket atty who will rep you in court and usually have all reduced except court cost (49 bucks) no points ?

Sorry NC sounds stiff !

Please contact more attorneys. A Careless or reckless is a serious ticket carrying 4 points. You should be able to get it knocked down a lot since you have no record. The first attorney was going to do nothing for you and charge you money!! The thief!
You can do much better, call around and also talk to someone about alternative things such as driving class etc that keep it off your record. Good Luck!

if the original officer that clocked you lost site of you and then another deputy pulled you over 8 miles down the road, how do they know without any doubt that it was you? i would imagine there were exit ramps that the speeder (who ever he was) could have gotten off of the highway. unless you admitted guilt to the officer that pulled you .... just a thought

If your record is clean just go to court on it and admit guilt then ask for driving school. If you have not been to the school in 3 years you will probably get off pretty clean considering you were 38 mph over. Big fine but probably only half what a lawyer would charge. I have had 19 tickets and I am only 23 my insurance has never went up. I have been to court on all of them, just admit guilt look sorry and don't be cocky you should be good. Good luck man

WOW.........dont admit guilt...give it to an attorney specializing in traffic fines.....when they show up to court they do a better job, its worth the money trust me

This is what I was thinking too. Not sure if it will work, but there may be something here your attorney can work with. Either way it's a Bummer Tommy...just glad to hear you are still in possession of your Busa

Friggin' NC! Went close to 9yrs w/ no tickets up North...move down here and have had four in 4yrs :banghead:
This is a good reminder for me though....if I ever pass a cop at a high rate of speed and he does not pursue me.....my azz is getting off that road ASAP!

Igot my first speeding ticket on my 'busa yesterday. I was doing 110mph when the State trooper pulled me over. He gave me a ticket for 80 in a 65 (4 pts.)which was the best he could do. I'm going to court and talk to the prosecuter. My driving record is clean. If I don't like what he has to say, then I'll get a lawyer. I'm willing to pay a higher fine for no DMV points. My last speeding ticket was 2004. Got a careless reduced to an unsafe. Paid $186 and no points. I think they'll work with you if you have a clean record.

if your state is real stiff on this type of stuff get an attorney my story is a lot worse that most CA has a bunch of leeches though. I paid $1150.00 for my attorney similar situation. total cost to me was about $3500.00 for eveything inc. fines when the dust settled and a two pointer on my record. But like I said CA is rough and I don't know how the point system works in your state two points is still a big hit on the insurance for me. Good luck man I would get the attorney though.

It seems to me that the officer that cited you did not observe you doing anything, the ticket should be thrown out. Definitely get a lawyer. Your insurance will go through the roof.....I know from experience.

I need to get a hold a mod so I can edit my post. who ever this speeder is on this busa has gotten me in a mess.

I have talked to a lawyer. I don't want to go into details because you never know who reads these forums, but I think it will be ok. well see. my biggest thing is the insurance..if it doubles, ill have to sell my baby

You can always find cheaper insurance. Liability for me is 36.09 per month
