At work I'm on the gear crew and for the past few years we have been changing out the landing gear on just about every plane in our fleet.
Last night we were doing operation checks of the main gear. The hydraulic pumps are a little loud so adjust volume accordingly.

It's a time life item. About every ten years we change them. The plane is on three 80 ton jacks and lifted about 6 feet.

about 3 to 5 days around the clock depending on if there is any corrosion or other problems.

I don't know what it's made out of but I can tell you it isn't lite. You get a pretty good workout.
