So yesterday I took my Avalanche to Brakes for Less for a brake job, I figured my rotors needed resurfacing. The place seemed seedy, when he called and said it was going to be $699 and I needed brakes and rotors for all 4 tires, I didn't feel comfortable with having them do it. So I went and picked it up witht them having done no work. I call the dealer and they tell me $1,200 to do the work. My buddy had told me from the start to go to Sun Tire, so I called them, they were less than $600. I drop it off this morning, and he calls me two hours later, tells me my rear wheels are perfectly fine, they are still at 60% So the total thing cost me less that $300. So this dude at Brakes for Less tried to pimp me, he is going to have a bad morning on Tue cause I will be in his grill, I hope for his sake he I cool off and I don't knock him the eff out!

Why not go to dealer as they were double?

It pays to shop around and profit is not a dirty word.

You gotta find honest peeps and then stick with 'em . Glad it worked out for ya. Chill out and don't waste your time going back to Brakes for Less. It all worked out for ya. Just remember to let your family and friends know, and be satisfied that you kept that business out of their hands.

I am never mad at a business trying to make money, I am however pissed that dude completely lied to me and told me my rear was also " in diar need to be changed". I can't stand a crook!

Sounds like you may not have been an educated consumer either. That my friend is not the shops fault. NOW, in the future when you deal with "ANY" shop you must request to see the work they are about to perform. Let them show you what they are diagnosing and explain in detail in case its not clear to the eye. Whats to say this Brake For Less dude was really hampered by liability issues and to avoid any rework scenarios said I will do it this way and will cost this and be done. You probably had the chance to ask a question and also decide what work you wanted done. Whos to say this second shop Sun Tire didnt have a rookie tech on it and not know what hes looking for OR a tech who doesnt give a **** and only wants to do the easy work. There are many variables in a shops estimate and unfortunately the mechanical world is one of opinion as you will hear "I think its this" well, go look for yourself. They will show you and if they dont then walk.

If a non dealer shop gives you a estimate its likely for a reason. They dont want to have you back in two weeks saying the rear is now making noise when they just did the front and now they have to do the rear job for FREE.......or a serious discount so it comes down to do it right the first time. Not saying they didnt take care of you but too many times you will get took if dont get involved.

Figure out what I do for a living yet? I run a shop just like this.

At my old store is was $65 per axle for a pad slap and that included rotor cut. When at the dealership as service writer is was $300 per axle for brakes and $100 per rotor for machining additional. RIDICULOUS!!! but people pay it every day. These two places are half a mile from each other.....

Well I am educated enough to know that the shake in my steering wheel was my rotors and not pads. There was no squeek at all, I went to a shop to get quality work (that actually needed to be performed) done at a good price. The fact of the matter is that the a hole at brakes for less tried to rip me off. He didn't say "it is close" or I "should replace them" or he "reccomends it" he said the "rear needs to be done asap". That is not something that an expert in their field would mistake.

Gotta love Les Schwab.I do tons of brake jobs thanks to schwabs and theyre outrageous prices.I can do brakes normally around a $100 unless the rotors are shot. They always say, you need new calipers, new rotors, hardware etc.Trust me when someone brings me brakes and they say so and so says they are bad and I look and they are still good, I call them and let them know and theres no charge. If I dont have to replace something even if I want the money, I wont do it.Why do you think I get people coming to me and the crooked shops out there.

Know your car, even if you don't feel comfortable doing the job yourself. Buy a micrometer because cutting a disc or rotor past the recommended specs is a million times worse than changing them to soon. I am not saying they weren't trying to rip you off, but just like some try to take advantage of you others either because ignorance or just to save you a buck and get the job will cut a corner. You can use that on the motorcycle rotors to good tool to have. If I were you I would measure those rotors/disc when you get your truck back

I have a micrometer, I can't say I have ever used it though lol. I posted this on Facebook and I had like 10 different people who don't know each other agree that Sun Tire is awesome, apparently they have a very good reputation in town. The first place was convenient to my job, which is the only reason I went there. Even the dealer when I called said he was surprised I needed rotors and pads on all four wheels, my truck was just in there for some goodwill work and they checked them for me. I won't hesitate to call a crook a crook, and I want this a-hole to know that I know he is a pos.

Another thing, they say you should always trust your gut, as soon as I went in this place something didn't sit well with me. I should have walked out as soon as I got there.

"Brakes for Less" would have been a sure tip off for me. Kind of like "easy weight loss", and "low cost payday loans".

Brakes really are one of the easier maintenance jobs to do. There are plenty of online resources that could also help guide you through it next time, and it will save you a hell of a lot of money.
