trouble starting

Hi guys hopefully someone can answer this. I have a 08 busa that i took out for the first time yesterday the bike was turned off and on several times. On some start ups it was like it didnt want to start kinda like having a dead battery like it was having trouble turning the motor over but then if you let go of the starter button and hit it again it might either do it again or it would crank right up and start . Its almost like its getting compression locked or something its strange i never had a bike do this before and its a new battery thats been on the tender and kept up all the time so its not a battery issue and like I said it does not do it all the time. Any thoughts ?

Check your battery's state of charge with a volt meter to be sure.

Before you do:

Turn on the key switch for about 10 seconds to turn on the lights. Turn the key off, and then take a battery reading.

The reason for that is that batteries will develop a "surface charge", and not actually give you an accurate reading. Once you remove the surface charge, the reading you get is more reliable.

While you are at it, check your battery connections. If everything checks out, take a reading from your Battery Tender, and take a reading at the battery while the bike is running as well.

I doubt it is anything serious, or complicated. If your battery is at fault, you may have be able to get a new one from your dealer under warranty.

You need to read the Gen II owners forum. What you are describing sounds like a common issue that really isn't an issue. The manual describes cranking methods for cold bikes and when the Gen II is hot it can be hard to crank at times. I haven't exactly had the issue as you described it in your write up, but when mine was new with few miles on it, it did drag a little once on start up. There's also a recall on another starter issue with the handlebars locked left. Like I said read up, and see your dealer.

Could be a dumb question, but are you waiting for the fuel rail to pressurize before hitting the start button? I always wait for the sound to quit and I have never had any trouble starting mine.
