Okay folks, I'm a bit distressed. That beautiful voucher for a free track day with SoCal Track Days the Romanian Leprechaun and I won last night turns out to be no good. I went to the Socal track days website and read the prep stuff, and come to find out that the Pahrump track remainder days are for experienced track day riders only. It specifically says experienced riders only.

Well, where in the heck do I get my newbie-track-day over with, so I can use this coupon before the 31 of December 2008 ?.

I fired off an inquiry to the folks at Socal, but I would sure appreciate some track day junkie's ideas on this matter. Ideas anyone ???.....

Mucho Appreciado for the read !!! :super:

LODGING:
There is the Best Western inn located in Mojave, about 12 miles north of the track, Tell them you want the Willow Spring Raceway rate, and it's like $80.10 a night.
Best Western International Hotels - HOME

The Devonshire Inn is about 7 miles from the track, on the other side of the freeway. It's fairly cheap, I'm not sure how well the inn is, as I've never stayed there, but I been told it's an ok place.
DEVONSHIRE INN

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Lancaster a few times, very nice place, it does cost more, be sure to ask for the Willow Springs racers rate, I believe it's $100 a night. Ask for the front desk when you make reservations. The hotel is about 12 miles south of Rosamond.

Aight Spud, here's the deal.

Shortboarder (aka Craig) did a trackday with us (BA Busa, Charlesbusa, myself, Big O, and Lamb Busa) back in March thru Socaltrackdays at SMMR. That was Shortboarder's 1st EVER trackday weekend and he pretty much went without any problems. But he's done some canyon riding before so he knows how to hold a line.

As long as you don't tell them you're a newb, than you'll be fine. However, do keep in mind that Socaltrackdays are known for their "hot track" format, meaning that once the track is "hot" or open, it'll remain that way until lunch and 5PM. There are NO 3 group format, i.e. beginner, intermediate, advanced or Cgroup, B group, A group, etc....So you'll be riding with a variety of skill levels ranging from prolly 1st timers to AMA privateers. You ride as long as you can personally tolerate.

I'm sure even if you told them you're a 1st timer, they'll accomodate. They just don't advertise that it's meant for beginners b/c they don't want a flood of newbies hitting the track and becoming a safety issue. The closing speeds between experts and beginners are UNREAL!! But many of the guys running expert are usually very safe even if you're in a corner, look over, and can literally feel their kneepuck up against you. As long as you hold a line, you'll be fine.

I wonder if it means: Experienced Track Riders (only) or generally speaking, no riding NEWBs.

Definitely worth a call, bro.

They mean both...but....Shortboarder was a newb when it came to the track, and they had no problems with him, b/c there weren't 30+ newbs.

BTW-they say to safetywire or RTV silicone seal your oil drain plug and clamp + safety wire your oil filter. but honestly, they haven't checked. The crazy thing is once you pull up to the gate, they do registration and "tech" (they just ask if you went over your bike and safety wired your oil drain) and take your word that your bike is good to go. So, it's up to you to safetywire or RTV the drainplug. I would do it just to make sure it doesn't back out on you and oil the track. That can shut the track down for over 45+min to 2 hrs.

Not sure were you are getting this from as I have been told my attendees that there are three groups and they rotate every 20 min's thru-out the day

Hello!!?? I'm talking about Pahrump. Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. I know what I'm talking about considering I've been doing trackdays and racing for 3 years now.
www.socaltrackdays.com are one of the VERY FEW track orgs that do HOT TRACK/open lapping. Most others do 2 or 3 group formats. Spudly asked about SMMR as THAT'S the whole purpose of THIS THREAD. I have no doubt that YOUR TRACKDAY is doing 3 group formats. I've been going to Willow Springs for years (Big Track and Streets) and EVERY ORG except WSMC does a 3 group format.

No need to get stressed here dude. I just assumed you were referencing my post regarding Williow Springs which tries to help newbies which is the topic of this tread. Ride safe.

Spudly, you can do the Fastrack riders organization right here in Las Vegas. Go to thier website for all the info, you will have to take the novice riders class ($115) plus the trackday ($200) for the classic course. The novice class is two students per instructor, you learn the flags, lines, techniques and critiques, etc. Some guys have taken the class twice because it is that valuable. Once you have that done you are better equipped to be considered "experience".

Gtrpimp76 has already showed another way to do, so at least you have options. However IMO, the pharump track is a serious track and if your not comfortable with going fast (not fast like on city street, but serious high rpm, high mph track fast) or getting in the way of fast riders, the pharump track may not be the best first track day for you.

Don't forget you are going to need the safety gear so that is more $$ for rental if you don't already have it. Yea, it does start to sound expensive because it is. But you have spent enough time on this board and have read over and over how guys (me included) say it was the most fun they ever had.

Or you can just sell the free day pass to someone  and make some quick cash. If I were you I would take the jump and get into trackdays. You will learn so much about you and your bike and make some fantastick friends.

Alright you mugs....I get it....and I don't get it...., but that's the idea here.... Mucho Appreciado on the info... :super: I just don't want to waste the lady's luck and the clock is ticking on the expiration. Have pro-gear, that's the way I ride outside of town. Traffic doesn't stress me when I'm amongst fast riders out in the hills as long as everyone's paying attention. I'll make a few phone calls start of the week, and see where it gets me. I have work for the next several days....gotta make it so I can spend it !!!! :oldcool:

I've never riden with you Spud, so I can't give you any advice.

I'd riden with Shortboarder and knew that he was a fast canyon rider with good judgement(very important). So I told him to go and not worry about it, and it was no problem.

But I don't know how fast you are in the corners and how well you handle situations.

What they don't want is what about 1/2 of all newbies are like. VERY slow riders and generally "young" riders who make bad decisions.

If you are fast in the canyons, then go for it and stay on the racing line(the fastest way around the track). The racing line generally is starting wide, turn in all the way to the inside curb at the apex, then drift back out wide at the exit. Be predictable, use the same lines(path) everytime. This way faster riders know you are predictable and can pass you safely.
