I got a call out of the blue today. A friend told a friend to call me about fixing a bike he just bought.
I told him I'de come check it out in the next few days, whenever I got a chance.
It's a 1999 TL 1000. I've ridden a couple and love them, but never worked on one.
He told me it was running fine, but now, just starts, runs for a few seconds, and then cuts off.
I told him it could be alot of things, and if I had to guess right off, maybe a clogged fuel filter, or dieing pump.
I'll figure it out.
My question(s) are pretty simple.
Are the TL's known for any particular problems? Is there anything at all that I should look out for, or pay special attention to?
I'm gonna do some reading on other forums and find some specs too(like compression).
Just thought I'de ask for some advice first from anyone experienced working on them.
Thanks for any info.

My son had one, they are known for wiring/rectifier problems. He found all the answers on the forums and made repairs. He has sold it since then.

Not sure about US bikes, but I'm guessing its a TLS (tube type frame) not a TLR (beam type frame). There were quite a few differences so worth letting folk know when your asking.

I like the TLS best. Original version had questionable suspension but most have been modded by now. A tidy TLS is getting collectible.

TL1000 were fun machines. I am currently looking at an 03. Motors differed between the s and r. I would suspect fuel pump right away. Maybe fuel filter. Is it throwing any codes?

Check and see if the factory rear shock has ever been swapped out. As someone had already touched on. Super fun bike to ride.
