Thixxer build thread

GIXXER1300

Registered
Hey guys, when I posted my introduction thread, I said I was going to start a build thread for my bike, so here it is. My bike is a white 2011 Hayabusa with a bit of work done to it. I'm going to go over what all has been done so far in the next few posts and then keep this updated as I modify it more. Hope you guys enjoy! For now, this is what it looked like when I bought it:

I think 'Thixxer' might mean 1300-GIXXER = the Hayabusa he has. I wonder where anyone can open up a Busa in Hawaii. I rented a Honda 450 in '69 when I was there and the speed limits are low.
The 1000R belongs to my brother.

The name will make more sense once I get into the mods, but essentially I was going for "THICC GIXXER" but shortened. I do like the 1300-GIXXER theory though, same thought process. There are really only three roads here that I can open this up on and that's H1, H2, and H3. Those are the only highways on the island (Oahu) and the max speed limit here is 60 (only for about 1 mile, the rest is 35-55). I'm moving to Cali in a few months though, so hopefully I'll be able to get some better riding in there.

So, a few months after buying my bike, I hit some gravel in a turn on an unfamiliar road while riding at night and ended up rolling the bike. It faired surprisingly well, all things considered, but I figured if I was going to fix it, I might as well make it mine. And so the mods began...

This is what it looked like after the wreck (I had removed the side fairings as soon as I got it home since they were trashed)

You lost just one mirror, the shield and both side pieces but no rash on the bar ends or on either pipe? Wow! Pics of the fairings? And slid and flopped over but not “rolled” right? Looks like one frame slider got scuffed and the other (died) for the cause!

Since I was disassembling it, I figured I should go through the whole bike and check it out and do whatever maintenance I could. The bike had close to 25,000 miles on it, a worn chain and sprockets, and balding tires, so I figured I would do AllBalls tapered steering bearings, Worldwide ceramic wheel bearings, Vortex aluminum rear sprocket (+1), supersprox front sprocket (-1), K&N air filter, EK 530 ZVX-3 X-Ring chain, Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II tires, and clean all the built up grime I could find.

I ended up getting caught up and decided to lighten her up a bit with a GSX-R 1000 tail (using gregg's customs adapter kit and Corbin seat) and an aluminum front fairing stay and rear pillion.

Then I wanted to get rid of those giant dual Yoshi cans and the cat, so I took the cheap way out and bought a VooDoo Shorty full system (I know you all hate me for that, I don't care), it's getting replaced with a single Yoshi system eventually (R11 as soon as I figure out how to adapt it).

You may notice that one pipe is much further in than the others, after contacting Schnitz (where I bought it) and being connected with VooDoo reps, I was shipped a replacement pipe (for free) that did the exact same thing, then a VooDoo rep told me to just loosely mount the whole system front to back and then tighten and it would be fine. Turns out he was right, I've had no issues with it.

The bike was rideable at this point, so I briefly considered making it a street fighter until I rode it over 120mph and quickly realized how much I enjoy fairings. More to come soon as this post is getting long...

Slid until my frame slider caught grass and then pole vaulted my bike into a barrel roll, landed on the rear grab bar and then the mirror then the other side frame slider saved it.

Once I decided that I was going to put fairings on the bike, I (again) decided to be cheap and buy Chinese special unpainted fairings ($250 for a full set). That was a mistake since they're known to be low quality material and have fitment issues, but I figured it was worth the risk since the full Chinese set cost half of what Suzuki wanted for just one side fairing. This is how the fairings arrived, so I knew I was off to a good start lol:

After wrapping some in a very nice metallic blue 3M 1080 series vinyl and then realizing how bad the fitment was, I decided to do my best to salvage at least part of the old fairings:

(Side note: I did end up keeping this underbelly on to test the durability of the wrap and it holds up surprisingly well even after the plastic got deformed by the ill-fitting VooDoo exhaust)

(Other side note: The opposite side of the bike has a Chinese fairing on it that I will show later, as I did not get any photos of that side at this stage)

I got all the fairings back on so I could comfortably ride her again

Got a Vortex gas cap to reduce weight and also not have to worry about messing with a key while filling up

Took her out for a ride and used most of the tire. I need to get get re-adjusted to the way she feels now with all the weight gone from the tail.

You may have noticed the RaceTech valves and shims on the floor in the last post. I saw that one of my fork seals began to leak and I was also unable to set sag to where I wanted it, so I figured I might as well upgrade my suspension while I am in the process of fixing the seals. I am currently in the process of replacing the compression and rebound valves in my forks with RaceTech gold valves and putting in stiffer springs. I have no experience with this stuff (I've done springs, fluid, and seals before, but never valves), and only a working knowledge, so let me know if these look alright to you guys. Also, I do own a spring compressor, but not for motorcycle springs, so I used zip-ties for the old ones and a makeshift compressor for the new ones.

Note: Here's that Chinese fairing I mentioned earlier:

I also thought this would be a good time to swap out the headlights for LED since the old ones were bothering me. I did high-beam, low-beam, and marker lights in LED

I like everything but that tail. To me the hump makes the Hayabusa.
I agree that the hump does make the Hayabusa, that's why I got the 2008 GSX-R 1000 tail and called my bike "THIXXER" lol. I don't like what most people consider to be the Hayabusa scene with the fat tires and stretch and chrome everywhere and big turbo and NOS and stuff. I didn't want to be identified as part of that scene, so I "un-Hayabusad" the bike. I just want a fast, capable machine that looks good, handles well, and can beat most litre bikes in a straight line, so that's what I'm building.
