This is interesting, and has some potential

Oh this is great for me!! This means no more tickets!! woohoo!!

But I worry about the crime rate...I think that its going to skyrocket! I don't think this is a wise decision at all. Think of all the drugs that can get pushed into the country. Think of all the terriorist that can get away scott free...blow a building jump in a car and go 10mph over the speed limit and the cops can't do a damn thing.

I bet these are the same people that said to remove God from the pledge of allegiance, and the same stupid people that said we can't practice any religion in government buildings.

I hope it doesn't pass...The crime rate would triple, and I'ld be apart of it---speeding is a CRIME and I'ld speed more if i knew there would NEVER be achase i wouldn't even slow down when i rolled passed the police. Heck i'ld speed up knowing that they couldn't catch me.

This is a bad idea. Now people are just gonna start driving more erratically than they already do. We have enough problems with people that just don't know how to drive without telling them that if they present a danger they won't be pulled over. Appeal!

Yeah, I can see that this might be a bad thing...

But, I can also see that some deaths can be avoided if the cops just lay back...

That's going to be a difficult debate, I think. Try and put yourself in the shoes of family to those that have been killed due to high-speed chases...

How do the police feel about this? BulletTrain? I can't imagine how I'd feel if I were in a patrol car chasing someone and they crash, then die...it's got to be hard...but, it's your job, and you may have just saved others from being hurt or killed by the one you're chasing...difficult to decide.

I dont really think that they would not chase you down if you are 10 or 20 miles over the limit...they will surely chase you down if you are over the limit within reason....if you are in a clearly older vehicle doing 120+mph they will and in all honesty SHOULD back off.....

On the flip side if you are running after a bank robbery or after planting a slug in someone....I dont think anyone would want them to get away & the chase will continue untill the criminal hits a freeway or something.......I just feel it is not worth it to kill someone else driving at these speeds only so a Cop can give a ticket for speeding in the first place.....to a certain extent I think it is a very very silly loop.

There are alternatives as always but these can be found only if the first option is taken away, Damn if I were a cop I'd never vote this law out...It's my legal chance to speed and act a fool on public roads (legally).

One example is to set up police speed triggers every few exits normally every exit is a town and every town has a police station if a triggers goes off 2 or 3 times on a given freeway/highway or toll road an alert beacon goes off that then triggers a few police cars on that road or on exits that are up ahead....those officers can then attempt to stop the criminal or speeder if it is just some kid speeding then you dont have to go on a "HUNT" while if it is a hardened criminal then they can try (within reason) to stop him....every exit a new cop joins the chase, but not at 120+mph if the speed exceeds a certain amount then "BACK OFF".

If the criminal stole a car....LET HIM the insurance can pay for it but if he nails someone at a junction or on the road cause a cop was chasing the driver and kills or injures the driver.....that truely cannot be paid for or replaced.

I have another idea....why not setup electronic strips on roads that are subject to speeding that way if a vehicle speeds a police officer has the option of triggering that electronic strip that inturn has the ability to lock the fuel injection or jam the electronic components in the car thus forcing the car to stall and eventually roll to a stop.

(this wont work with Bikes)
All right let the bashing begin.

Last time i check the cops chased till 135mph in the Deals Gap area..... BusaBen may have more recent insight on that though

i hope this never gets passed. if i knew i could avoid a ticket with a twist o' the throttle........just send my worthless ass to jail

You beat me to it. There was a case in CT in around 1987 of a guy that was running 160ish down the interstate. He was spotted by helicopter and they were able to get is license plate info and had two cops waiting on is doorstep when he got home.

Neccesity is the mother of invention. The chase/crash/inocent victim statistics are grim and pursuit policies need a hard look and down scaled application. With cameras at most major intersections and strategic highway locations, simply photo ID will nab most violators not associated with a violent crime. Some intersections or highway locations could have remotely operated stop sticks or engine disabling electronics. Until the chases go away the technology to replace them has no impetus. With the right technology safty can be increased along with bad guys off the street. In the interim it would be nice to just be a simple speed limit bandit and with the twist of a wrist warp away from Joe Law.
